She attended school in Cherokee, Iowa and graduated from High School in West Plains, Missouri in 1956. She met the love of her life, Owen Lee Smith and married him on June 17, 1956. Throughout her career as a school secretary, she loved working with the families of Mountain View Elementary and Liberty High School.
Judy and Owen lived in the mountains of New Mexico for 23 years and loved riding motorcycles through the mountains and Judy reveled in being Owen's passenger. She was athletic through her life and was an avid softball and volleyball player and she loved riding horses. Bowling was a favorite hobby to do with her family. Music was always important to her and as a young girl, she and her sisters sang on a local radio station in Missouri. She loved many things, but as her family can attest, dancing was not one of them.

Judy has four remaining sisters and two brothers, Mildred Gannon of Kansas City, Missouri; Alice Huddleston, also of Kansas City, Missouri; Amy and John Husman of Cherokee, Iowa; Vicky and Verle Matzdorff of Rapid City, South Dakota; Benny and Teresa Holloway of Lebanon, Missouri and Roy and Ruth Holloway of Ashland City, Tennessee. She adored all fourteen of her great grandchildren, Harper, Hannah and Hazel Friend; Carl Lippitt; Holden, Tatum, and Declan Foley; Clover Upchurch; Kale, Kelbie and Beckam Smith, Ryder (Smith-Stephens); and Jayden and Braxton Smith. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as other extended family and friends.
