IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katherine Kay
Harris
August 9, 1933 – August 24, 2024
Katherine Kay Klinglesmith Harris was born August 9, 1933, and died August 24, 2024, at the age of 91. Kay was born and reared in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, the third daughter of John and Clara Klinglesmith. Kay attended Tribbey High School and East Central State College in Ada. As a young adult she moved to South Oklahoma City, where she raised a daughter, Marina, and a son, Timothy.
Kay worked for the Miller Norris Company for 26 years, where she served as the Administrative Assistant to the President, and the Comptroller of its subsidiary, Miller Norris Services. Kay was a member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church, a church pianist, and a Sunday School teacher during most of her adult life.
Kay is survived by her husband, Charles Harris; her daughter Marina Palo and husband Jim of Portland Oregon; her son Timothy Farr of Oklahoma City. Kay is also survived by granddaughter Madison Farr of New York City; by stepson Jonathan Harris and wife Denise of Dimmitt, Texas, and his two sons Ostyn and Bayle. Also, stepdaughter Amy Seymour and husband Billy of Chickasha, and her children Benjamin, Levi, Jude, Audrey, and Zeb. Surviving nieces and nephews include Marsha Williams, Debbie Austin, Johnny Megehee, John Mark Smith and Karen Roettele
Through Kay's 91 years she learned to read by a coal oil lantern, saw electricity come to the farm house, got to talk on a brand new Southwestern Bell party line, learned the value of a dollar due to the Great Depression, saw the first color movie, "The Wizard of Oz", when she was 6 years old, witnessed World War II and the atom bomb, saw the introduction of television, the advent of computers, the first man walking on the moon, the invention of the internet, she lived through fifteen U.S. Presidents and made the leap from party line to cell phone.
Kay was a farm girl, living on the family farm with Hereford cattle and oil derricks. Kay never forgot what a sheltered life Papa John and Clara provided for their three daughters on that home place.
Kay was a believer, trusting the Lord Jesus Christ. She was saved at the age of 14 and baptized in a pond not far from Tribbey Baptist Church. She would live an exemplary life serving the Lord in her church and caring for her family. She was old fashioned, surviving hard times, and always expecting things to be done the right way.
