Kenneth David Reed, Kenny as he was known to most of his close friends passed away at his home in Norman on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the age of 65. Kenny was born in Oklahoma City July 22, 1958 to David & Phyllis (Kay) Reed.
Kenny was raised in the south Oklahoma City community most of his life. He attended Grant High School until the family moved to the Western Heights School District where he would graduate in 1976.
On June 27, 1988 Kenny married his longtime sweetheart Heidi Butler, to this union was born a precious daughter Brittany, the family enjoyed many years together going to the lake and their favorite vacation spot Branson, Missouri.
Kenny's father David was a professional barber, and like so many in his family, followed in his footsteps into the barbering trade. He received his education at Duncan Brothers School of Hair Design receiving his license to practice in the State of Oklahoma in1978.
He worked alongside his father and other family members at The Style Shop in Crossroads Mall for many years. Following the closing of the mall location, Kenny opened his own shop, the Style Shop in Stubbeman Village at the OU Campus in Norman.
Kenny possessed a competitive spirit in all endeavors, especially sports. Among those interests, golf stood out as a favorite as he would play various courses. He found himself intrigued about course maintenance and design. He enrolled at OSU OKC in horticulture classes and pursued a degree in Turf Management and worked at the course on the OSU OKC campus at Northwest 10th and Portland. Although he never received his degree, Kenny was employed at several courses in the metro area like Earlywine, Oak Tree, Fairfax in Edmond, and Winter Creek in Blanchard.
Kenny was an avid bowler in his 20s and 30s participating in many tournaments and bowling leagues. He played baseball when younger and went on to umpire countless baseball games. He loved fishing and hunting with his brother and friends. He spent most of his years fishing at the family cabin at Lake Eufaula, Lake Taneycomo, and the Arkansas River.
Due to his deteriorating health, Kenny was forced to retire at an early age from both barbering and golf course management.
He will always be remembered for his outgoing personality. He made friends wherever he went, and he would leave a lasting impression.
He will be greatly missed in the lives of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Kenny was preceded in death by his grandparents; William and Edith Reed, Kenneth and Lucille Weiche, J.P. and Arrahwanna Howard, and father David Reed and his step father Robert "Bob" Howard.
He is survived by his wife Heidi, daughter Brittany Hankins her husband Aaron and their son Sutton, his mother Phyllis Howard, step mother Pat Reed, brother Randall Reed, sister Dawn Estep, brother Robert Howard and wife Janet, sister Julie Chase and husband Jeremy, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
