Kenneth Joe Witten departed this world suddenly on February 1. For all of those who enjoyed his joyful voice, smiling face, years of barbershop harmony and comedic entertainment, he will be truly missed. There was never a man who enjoyed music, a good story, and a friendly face more. His enthusiasm for life was contagious, and we were blessed to have him with us for 74 short years. Born in 1934 on the farm in Butler, OK, to Oscar and Grace Witten, the Wittens moved to Oklahoma City in the 1940's. Ken graduated from Classen High School in 1952, and finished his formal education with a degree in Finance from OU in 1958. Joining the family's home - building business, he became well known for building a quality home with the latest features and innovations. His love for home building expanded into home furnishings in the 1970's. He owned and operated several furniture stores; including Witten's House of Spain and Witten's Furniture Village. His antics on the TV commercials that he wrote and produced promoting these furniture stores are still recalled today. Ken spent the latter part of the 1970's until present day in the construction industry, most recently with Coreslab Structures, Inc., of Oklahoma City. Blessed with a voice that could range from tenor to bass, he began his musical career at OCU. He was a minister of music for Shartel Church of God, and was tenor in the barbershop quartet "The OK Four" for 25 years. During his time with the OK Four he completed two USO tours, entertaining troops in the Pacific during the Vietnam War. Additionally, the OK Four starred in "Music Man" for Lyric on several occasions. His years in barbershop included many national and regional awards. These were some of his most rewarding years with many memories of trips and competitions that lasted a lifetime. Ken is survived by wife Jan of 16 years; brother Wanace and wife Laverna of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Janna and David Morris, Joplin, MO; Cyndi and Dr. Tom Janssen, and Kim and James Schlecht, of Oklahoma City; one stepson, Preston Woods of Dallas, TX, nine grandchildren, a nephew and many more extended family and friends.
