Freeman
July 14, 1941 – February 4, 2024
Lana Ruth Ivester Freeman born in 1941 to Georgia and Doty Ivester in Sayre Oklahoma passed from this earth on February 4, 2024 at the age of 82. Lana is heavenly reunited with her husband Dudley after 54 years of marriage.
Lana grew up on a farm in New Liberty outside of Sayre where she and her three siblings learned to "work the land". Once the family moved in to Sayre, she joined the basketball team and was known to be quite good and feisty. She also excelled in 4H; holding many local offices; entering and winning several state competitions and traveling to Washington DC to compete nationally.
During her senior year she met the love of her life…Dudley Freeman. After graduation the couple married and attended Southwestern State College together. With college diplomas in hand (and a small baby) they went off to tackle the world as school teachers, coaches, counselors and administrators.
Lana was a professional educator and school Counselor for 39 years, most of which were spent with Moore Public Schools as a High School Counselor. She is a past recipient of the PTSA Teacher of the Year award. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi; Pilot Club International where she served as a past Governor of the Oklahoma/Arkansas region; and several professional educators' organizations. During her professional career she also tried her hand as a small business owner and realtor.
Lana and Dudley were members of the First United Methodist Church in Moore since 1976. They were active members of their Sunday school, often teaching and traveling with the members.
Lana was a wonderful wife, loving mother, supportive sister, devoted daughter, adventurous grandmother and her favorite role was "Nana Lana" to her great-grandchildren.
Lana is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Janet and Clay Southard; Daughter Joanna Hawthorne; Granddaughter Whitney Benge and husband Josh; Grandson Matthew Southard and fiancé Sarah Cervantes; Grandson Zachary Stephens and wife Callie; Granddaughter Katie Hawkins; Granddaughter Jenny Hawthorne; Granddaughter Tara Sanger; Granddaughter Lindsay Hawthorne. 5 Great Grandchildren: Makenzie Benge; Luke Benge; Kate Ryan Benge; Cade Stephens and Claire Stephens.
Preceding Lana in death is her husband, Dudley Freeman; Parents Georgia and Doty Ivester; Sister Coreena Gilliland and son-in-law Eddie Hawthorne.
