HODGES, Larry Lane died January 23rd, 2014, at his home in Oklahoma City, as a result of a sudden illness. Larry was born July 22nd, 1955, in Oklahoma City to Lloyd and Avena Hodges, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his older brother Lloyd Leroy (Lee) Hodges. He is survived by his two brothers, Lindel L. Hodges, and Lonnie L. Hodges; his nephews, Christopher Gooszen, Lindsey Hodges, Ryan Hodges, and Chad Hodges.
Born into an oil field family and raised in the construction industry focusing on oil refinery disassembly and relocation, he attended Oklahoma City public schools, The Oklahoma Military Academy and Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado who awarded him a full athletic scholarship for swimming. He also attended The University of Oklahoma, where he studied business.
Larry was a loyal, dedicated son, who for most of his working career advanced the efforts of the family business; doing any and everything asked of him in a direct and workman like, manner. He had not only the work ethic prerequisite to succeed in an ever evolving industry, but a passion for the job that helped him to accomplish feats others can only dream of claiming as a goal. Larry's father was a great mentor of all things related to industrial machinery and equipment and under his tutelage Larry became proficient in many areas of the construction industry. He had no fear of hard work, and endeavored ceaselessly his entire life, working anywhere in the United States his jobs took him.
Without Larry, family enterprises in oil field construction, crane and salvage operations, disassembly and reconstruction of oil and gas transportation and refining systems could not have been accomplished. Larry leaves behind a legacy of hard work, imagination, accomplishment and loving family and friends who will always remember his larger than life personality, his twinkling blue eyes and his readiness with a quip or a quote. Memorial donations may be made to OMRF, 825 NE 13th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73104
(405) 271-6673. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Vondel Smith North Colonial Chapel, with burial to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
