Obituary

Larry Joe Roberts, 82, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

Larry was born on November 3, 1943, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Double L. and Edna Fay Roberts. He lived a full and meaningful life marked by hard work, deep love for his family, and a steady kindness that made people feel at ease in his presence.

He began his career with Oklahoma Natural Gas Company before serving the community through a 27-year career with the Oklahoma City Fire Department. At the same time, Larry built custom homes, a craft he continued until retiring in 2012. He was the kind of man who believed in staying busy, doing things well, and creating something lasting through quality craftsmanship.

Larry was a member of Westmoore Community Church. He enjoyed golf, especially with the right conditions: no wind, temperatures below 98 degrees, and absolutely no humidity. He loved OU football, OU women’s softball, western shows, and later developed an interest in sci-fi movies. He had a great sense of humor, a gentle spirit, and a way of enjoying life’s simple pleasures.

More than anything, Larry will be remembered as a kind, patient, and caring man. He was someone who made others feel loved, supported, and welcome. He wanted his service to reflect the life he lived: upbeat, celebratory, and filled with love. In his own words, he wanted it to be a reflection of “a happy life well lived,” with happy songs, happy faces, and lots of love for everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Double L. and Edna Fay Roberts; his sister, Judy Roberts Dunn; his brother, Michael Roberts; and his stepson, Lynn Lindsay.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Janna Louise Roberts; his brother, Loy Roberts; his children, Kyle Roberts and wife, Trina, Stephanie Cook and spouse, Herb, Crystal Johnson and spouse, Aris, and Debbie Holder; as well as 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Vondel L. Smith Funeral Home at South Lakes in Oklahoma City.
