Obituary

Laverna Mae Witten departed this world on Sept. 17, 2011, just short of her 85th birthday. she was born Sept. 19, 1926 in Garber, OK. In 1941 her family sold their farm and moved to Billings OK. She started playing violin when she was in the 8th grade and continued through high school and planned to be a musician after going to music school. She graduated from Billings High School in May 1943. After graduation she moved to OKC and worked in the OKC Film Exchange District ("Film Row") for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer until 1945 when she met an Army Air Corp Pilot named Wanace Witten whom she married on 2/27/1946. They were married for 63 years and had four boys: Larry Eugene, Ronnie Joe, Bobby Dee, and Gary Wanace. She and Wanace traveled around the country in their motor-home and enjoyed OU football games. She was a talented painter and enjoyed gardening and bird watching. She was a devoted and giving wife mother and homemaker and will be greatly miss by all.

She is survived by her son Ronnie Witten, Grandson Garrett Duty, nieces: Janna Morris, Cyndy Janssen, & Kim Schlecht, Daughter- in-law, Shelly Duty and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 Monday- 9/19/11 at Vondel Smith Mortuary North. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday 9/20/11 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to: Paralyzed Vets of America, Disabled American Vets, or Vets of Foreign Wars. Laverna will be missed forever and is now at peace in the arms of God.
