Lawanda Ann (Underwood) Hughes, 75, was born October 12, 1950, to parents, Hoyt and Jane (Ross) Underwood, in Durant, Oklahoma. She passed away on September 17, 2026, in Oklahoma City. Lawanda attended Oklahoma City public schools, completing her education at Western Heights. On August 27, 1966, Lawanda married Terry Hughes and they were blessed with their three children, Jason, Shelly and Tara. Having just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, Lawanda and Terry had a marriage that was like a fairy tale that many dream of. She worked for the Oklahoma City Clinic for 20 plus years and was dedicated employee that never missed a day of work. She was a great role model for her children and grandchildren. Of her many hobbies, coloring and reading were her favorite. Her most valued time was spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchild.

Lawanda was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws. She leaves cherished memories with her husband of 60 years, Terry; Son, Jason Hughes; daughters, Shelly McPheeters and Tara Patton and husband Ozzie; grandchildren, Rio, Lily, Chelsea, Chris, and Caleb; great grandchild, Ryder; sister, Connie Nuckolls; brother, Duane Hughes and wife Kim; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other loved ones.
