Lawrence went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 80 years of age. He was born March 13, 1934 in Oklahoma City at his Grandma Runyon's home at 714 South Pottawatomi to Oceail and Lola (Runyon) Wheeler. Lawrence was the 3rd of five children, four boys and one girl. Lawrence grew up in Oklahoma City, attending Lincoln Grade School, Webster Jr. High and Central High School. He spent four years in the Air Force, spending a stint in Korea as an air guard. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the family grocery business with his brother Darrell and dad, Oceail, at Honest Market (3 & South Broadway) in downtown Oklahoma City. It was during these years that he married the love of his life and best friend, Loretta Sue Higgins and raised a daughter, Eva Marie. Lawrence was baptized at Oklahoma City First Church of the Nazarene on June 11, 1944 with his older brother Ronald where he has been a member for over 70 years. Lawrence loved his Church and his family, including numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and life friends. His most precious moments were family get-togethers, playing cards, croquet and everyone talking at once. He rarely missed a Wheeler or Runyon Family reunion, wedding, baby shower or funeral. He enjoyed horse racing and traveled to Kentucky, attending over 15 Kentucky Derby's. Lawrence was a loving and caring person who never met a stranger and always had a kind word for them. After retirement, Lawrence missed being around people and worked for a number of years for G&R Auto Parts. He worked as a volunteer with the Salvation Army Senior Centers, including St. Andrews Square Seniors, enjoying great times with his Dad and Uncle Herman Wheeler. He and Loretta never missed a beat when asked (typically by his brother Ronald) to help with fund raising from FBI or political events to the OKC Blazers Hockey team to help raise money for Children's Hospital. The Wheeler family would like to add a special thank you to William Greenwood, Becky and Brian Murphy for their support, as well as the many years of wonderful care he received from the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Lawrence has left an impact on many people with the deepest and most unconditional love for many generations. He will greatly missed by all.
