Obituary

Leonille "Lee" Morin Day, 91, died Wednesday, July 6, 2010 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a brief illness. Until recently she resided in Davie, Florida. Lee was born on June 24, 1919 in St. John, Maine. She was the daughter of the late Alfred "Fred" Morin and the late Nellie Pelletier Morin. She attended Fort Kent schools. The Morin family moved to Portland, Maine during the 1940's. Due to the manpower shortage during World War II, Lee was the first typewriter repair woman employed by a local repair plant and she also worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at the Portland naval Shipyard. She had a brief career as a model for a clothing catalog and was an accomplished seamstress. During the War she met and fell in love with Merchant Marine, Captain Clayton Day. The couple lived in New Jersey and New Britain, Connecticut. The Days always remained close to their Maine roots, enjoying summers at their camp on Highland Lake, where the entire family gathered each Sunday. Lee will always be remembered for her zest for life and her enormous love for her family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Clayton; brothers, John, Alfred, Leonard, Christian, and Eldrick; sisters, Florine St. John, Florence Oakes, Marilyn Sawyer and grandson, Steven Allen. She is survived by sister, Kathleen Voisine of Scarborough, Maine; daughters, Linda Allen, of Wells, Maine, Deborah Day Cather and husband Eugene of Davie, Florida, Diane Loser and husband Wayne of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; many loving nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Morin of New Britain, Connecticut. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 ST. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Brooklawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
