Lorene A. Thompson left this earthly world and her grieving family to go to her Heavenly home to be with our Lord and her husband, Homer on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the age of 95.
The youngest of four children born to Irish parents, James Michael Starr and Anna (Callahan) Starr, Lorene was born on July 24, 1925 in Denver, Colorado. Following the death of her mother at the early age of five years old, Lorene was raised by her father and three older brothers. Lorene always loved to share and entertain her family and friends with stories from her childhood and growing up. Growing up as a young woman, Lorene worked at the Denver Phone Company and became a "Rosie the Riveter" at a plastic factory during World War II.
Following the war, a young man by the name of Homer Harlan Thompson drove the street cars in town, where Lorene became a regular passenger on his routes. That was the beginning of a 62 year life together. They built a home and family in Denver, raising two young girls and a set of twin boys. While Homer worked hard providing for his family, Lorene worked just as hard staying home raising the kids and creating a loving home. Every day when the children would arrive home from school, Lorene would have the house full of wonderful smells of freshly baked cookies, brownies and homemade breads. It was always an amazement how Lorene created such a loving home and wonderful holidays and family traditions without having a mother to teach her how. Lorene happily passed these and her unwavering love of God and family to her children as well.
In 1966, the Thompson family moved to Amarillo, Texas where they remained until 1976, then Homer was transferred to Oklahoma City where they spent the last almost 40 years of life together. After Homer's passing in 2015, Lorene spent the following 6 years looking for him, anxiously waiting to be reunited with him one day. That happy day came on June 17, 2021 when they were reunited for eternity. Lorene leaves behind the broken hearts of her: 4 Children: Beverly Wheeler of Arlington, Texas; Christine DeVore and husband, James of Bridgecreek, Oklahoma; Donald Thompson and his late wife, Rachelle of Weatherford, Texas; and Douglas Thompson and wife, Jennifer of Texarkana, Texas; 10 Grandchildren: Matthew Wheeler; Carrie Wheeler; Steven Wheeler and wife, YaYa; Nathan DeVore and wife, Michelle; Julie Mowdy and husband, Ron; Chelsea Riha and husband, Steven; Josie Thompson, Rhiannon Thompson, Elena Thompson and Caden Thompson; 11 Great Grandchildren, and countless other extended family members.
