Obituary

Mary Ann Wiley went to her Heavenly home on July 28, 2025. She was greatly cherished and loved by friends and family.

Mary Ann was born July 31, 1931 in the Phillips Oil Camp at Phillips, Texas to her parents, Andrew and Cora Ayling. She spent her youngest years there with her 4 siblings, and she always remembered her time Texas with great joy, talking fondly about playing in the oil patches and canyons of the Texas Panhandle.

At 5 years old, her family moved to her beloved lifelong home of Oklahoma City. She would grow up in OKC, graduating from Central High School 1949.

Mary Ann was working at TG&Y in late 1949 when the postman delivered mail to her job. That postman, Martin Wiley, would become the love of her life. She often said that it was love at first sight for both of them and they married 3 months later on March 17, 1950.

Martin was called up to serve during the Korean War in 1951, relocating them to Roswell, NM for three years. During their time in NM, they had their daughter Janice. In 1953, they returned home to OKC, settling on the south side of the city. In the succeeding years, their family grew with the arrival of their sons, David, Alan, and Andy. For the next six decades, her family grew to include 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren whom were all her favorite.

Mary Ann loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother above all else. She was full of love and laughter, being there when needed and always able to offer sound advice and wisdom.

Mary Ann Wiley joined Trinity Lutheran Church of OKC in 1957. She formed friendships there that remained strong throughout her life. At Trinity, her faith was nurtured and grew. She loved singing hymns and taking communion with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by her side. She relied on her faith that Christ was always with her, giving her strength and comfort during any challenge. It was this faith that allowed her to face the loss of her parents and siblings, especially when she lost her husband 36 years ago. She leaves a legacy of strong Lutheran beliefs that continue through her family as they follow in her footsteps.

Mary Ann's other great love was the water. She began a career at the YMCA of OKC in 1964, retiring in 2016 after 52 years. She taught thousands of children and adults in the OKC area to swim. She served as teacher, coach, lifeguard, and aquatic director at the South YMCA during those years. Mary Ann loved swimming. Even when not teaching and for many years after official retirement, you could find her swimming laps or playing in the water with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, having taught all of them to swim herself. She was a proponent of exercise and healthy habits before they were cool.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Jack, Jimmy, Bill, and Delores as well as her husband Martin and son-in-law Karey Barnes.

Mary Ann leaves behind her children Janice Barnes, David Wiley, Alan Wiley and wife Susie, Andy Wiley and wife Karen. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Keri Steagall and husband David, Kim Mula and husband Ryan, Katie McCormick and husband Robert, Martin Wiley and wife Kourtney, Sarah Baker and husband Dustin, Julie Wiley, Chris Wiley and wife Natalie, Somer Speer, Emily Long and husband Derrick, and Andrew Wiley and wife Courtney. As well, she leaves behind great-grandchildren Grace, Lauren, Laynie, Max, Mary, Miles, Mila, Evelyn, Teddy, Olivia, Luke, Noah, Hunter, Brooks, Andrew, and Waylon.
