Obituary

Maryann Shultz born May 3, 1946 and went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2026. She is preceded in death by her parents Mary and Norvin Firgard, and brother Jerry “Pete” Firgard. She is survived by her brother Richard (Dick) Firgard (Donna), sons Lance Shultz (Amy), Ryan Shultz (Jennifer), Travis Shultz, and Garrett Shultz (Michelle). She also is survived by six grandchildren-Tanner Summerlin, Laney Shultz, Griffin Shultz, Mack Shultz, Maggie Shultz, and Mason Shultz.

She was born in Mason City, Iowa and grew up on a farm in Rockwell IA. She was a self-described “tom boy” and told stories of helping her brothers do farm work and street racing hot rod cars they worked on together. She loved her brothers and her family. Maryann married after high school, attended beauty school, and worked as a hairdresser before having children. Early in her marriage they moved around following jobs to Davenport, IA, St. Louis, MO, Carrollton, TX, and Little Rock, AR. They lived in Carrollton from 1977-1989, and while there, she was a full-time home-maker and mother to four boys. She dedicated her time to her boys’ various school and sports activities. She was active in PTA, Carrollton City Council, and was also very active in the church-becoming a eucharistic minister at her Catholic Church.

In 1989, her husband took a job with Alltel and moved the family to Little Rock, AR. Soon after, she began working for Southwest Airlines in reservations. When Southwest Airlines closed their Little Rock reservations office, she was offered a job in the Oklahoma City reservations office. She moved to Oklahoma City, worked and retired from SWA, and lived there the remainder of her life. During the final six years of her life, she battled complications related to a stroke that caused dementia and severely limited her usually active lifestyle.

Maryann was active, fun, always positive and left a big impression on so many people who knew her. She was a competent tennis player, bowler, racquetball player, and swimmer. She even taught water aerobics at Baptist Health in Little Rock while living there. She passed her love of sports and athletics on to her sons.

She was loved by so many people and she will be greatly missed. There will be no funeral as per her request. Prayers for her and her family.
