Mattie Jean Ruble, 84, passed away in Oklahoma City on February 5, 2023 surrounded with love from her family. Mattie was born to Lawrence & Mary (Nelson) Stockton in Waco, Texas on August 22, 1938. Mattie graduated from Waco High School in1956 where she was an outstanding member of the marching band playing alto saxophone. She married Samuel C. Ruble on June 26, 1959 in Waco, & she served him lovingly through their 63 years of marriage. Together they raised four children, Jacque Glasgow, Darla Holland, Karen Holland & Les Ruble. Mattie completed cosmetology school & worked in hair salons during the years she Sam & the family lived in Texas. She gave the entire family haircuts & took great pride in being certain everyone always looked like they had just stepped out of a barber shop or salon. A talented alto singer, Mattie enjoyed performing with groups at funerals or weddings. As a part of her own family performances during church singings, she influenced her young children of the importance of singing, especially to the Lord. Also, a very talented seamstress, Mattie sewed many outfits for her children throughout their youth. The family relocated to Oklahoma in 1974. She worked many years, most notably, for a uniform and equipment company. One aspect of her job was providing alterations for customers including law enforcement officers, firefighters & other public-sector employees. Mattie enjoyed serving these customers, respected and admired them, and formed many friendships. Years after retirement, Mattie would still be recognized by a firefighter or sheriff on the street or in a restaurant. After receiving a big hug, she would quickly ask for an update on their family. Those who knew Mattie knew she loved not only her family, but many people who became extended family. She had a steadfast loyalty to her entire family. Mattie never had a sister, but was part of a sisterhood, & many women enjoyed her lasting friendship. Mattie always had a big smile & hug for everyone. She was a pleasant, courteous, respectful lady who left you with the feeling that you were genuinely loved. To her grandchildren she was "Mimi"; to her nieces and nephews she was sweet "Aunt Mattie." The greatest gift she gave her children & grandchildren was being a sincere example of a Christian woman. Mattie will be fondly remembered & cherished.
