Obituary

Max Eugene Smith, Sr. (81), of Moore, OK passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on May 28, 2024. Max was born on March 14, 1943, in Decatur, Indiana to Clarence Smith (father) and Vera Jean (Garwood) Smith, mother. At a young age, Max and his family moved to Edmond Oklahoma where they put down their roots.

Max is survived by Julie Pulley of the home, his two children, son, Max Smith Jr. of Oklahoma City, and daughter, Lesley Smith, and husband, of Sulphur, Oklahoma. Three grandchildren Gage Smith of Cassville, Missouri, Taylor Smith of Sulphur, Oklahoma, and James Hibdon of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister, Cheryl Mcintire, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As well as many loving nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers Leland Smith, Steven Smith and Richard (Dickie) Smith, one grandson, Brenton Smith as well as his lifelong childhood friend he considered a brother, Jerry Hausman.

Max was a proud Veteran of the Army National Guard. He was also an active member of the Norman 38 Masonic Lodge and took a lot of pride in his membership within the India shrine and camel herders.

Max spent his career working as a licensed electrician and was member of the IBEW Local 1141 and UAW. Max retired from General Motors in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after 20 years of proud service.

Max had a fun-loving, adventurous spirit and had a variety of hobbies and interests. He had a passion for music which was shared by all members of the family. Max especially loved singing and playing the guitar and hosting karaoke parties with family and friends.

Max was a man of precision, every thought, calculated and planned. An avid golfer Max was sure to be found on a golf course. But he was also a competitive fast draw shooter, being named "top gun" of Oklahoma, in 1973 where his skills as a true cowboy were recognized. He also enjoyed performing in old wild west gunfight shows at Frontier City and around the state where his fast draw skills were shown in "live" action!

Max will be laid to rest June 3, 2024 at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City under the direction of Vondel Smith and Sons Mortuary.

Grandpa, uncle, friend, and dad---he will be dearly missed.

Eternal rest grant unto Max, O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
