IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melvin Carl
Garrett
November 24, 1936 – June 24, 2025
A Celebration of Life for Carl will be held at 2:00 PM Monday June 30, 2025 at the South Lakes Chapel (4000 SW 119th St)
Carl Garrett, 88, passed away on Tuesday June 24, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born at his family home in Clarksville, TX to his parents Coy & Agnes Garrett. He was raised during the depression and had to use the land to survive. He was a skilled hunter and fisherman, which came in handy when trying to find the next family meal. After graduating from Central High School in 1954 he enlisted in the US Air National Guard.
On August 30, 1958 He married JoAnn Day and the two began a family when they welcomed their sons, Russell, Ward, & Darrell. Carl enjoyed fatherhood, and passed on his outdoorsman skills to his sons. He worked for AT&T for 30 years before his retirement at 50 years old. He later married Billye Killian, and the two retired in Kingston where Carl enjoyed the lake life boating, fishing, water skiing, hunting and enjoying all the outdoors have to offer. After retirement he and Billye worked part time as a cross country driver team for J.B. Hunt. He was the owner of Garrett's Office Supply in Madill, OK from 1989 to 2005. After closing the office supply he started Boats 4/U which was a boat transportation company that delivered boats for various boat dealerships. To this very day, if he could, he would still be having boats.
He was president of the Madill Rotary Club from 1994-1995, and an honorary member of The Madill Art Club. He was an avid walker, walking miles every day since the 1970's. Even after he survived a near death bout with a ruptured appendix and months of rehabilitation he started walking again. He was lovingly known as the trash man in the Lake Texoma, Alberta Creek area because he cleaned up the trash along the roads he walked.
He loved to travel and see the country. His work ethic was unmatched, and he will be forever missed by those who know and love him.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Agnes; son Darrell Garrett; his brother, William "Bill" Garrett; Infant sister Dolly Garrett; second wife Billye Garrett; stepson Brian Kilian.
He is survived by his Sons: Ward Garrett, and Russell Garrett & wife Cheryl; first wife JoAnn Garrett; brother Earl Garrett & wife Toni; Sister; Emma Baker; Grandchildren: David Lee Garrett, Amber Cummings & husband Stan, & Nicole Garrett; Great-grandchildren Desiree, Aden & Ashton Cummings; as well as many friends and extended family.
