IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nathalie
Pate
May 25, 1923 – September 16, 2024
Nathalie Rayl Pate was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother during her incredible 101 years of life. She was called home to be with our Heavenly Father peacefully in the late hours of Monday, September 16, 2024. Nathalie was born in Sand Springs, OK on May 25, 1923 to loving parents, Lloyd Harrison Rayl and Elise Myrtle (Devary). With good genetics and a strong will to live, she survived scarlet fever, diphtheria, and a ruptured appendix in childhood at a time before antibiotics. She was an intelligent lady, runner up for the Oklahoma math contest, graduated one year early from Okmulgee High School with honors as Valedictorian in 1939. After graduation, she attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a Business degree. While at OU, she met her future adoring husband, James Durwood Pate. While in the army, he was stationed in Raleigh, NC. She hopped on a train and they were married in Raleigh on November 28,1944 and raised two children, Jim and Cathy. She loved to play bridge for enjoyment and became a Grand Master bridge player. She also spent thousands of hours as a softball fan for both Durwood's and Jim's playing years. Nathalie and Durwood were loyal OU fans attending most home football and basketball games. They were devout Christians and members of Grace United Methodist Church and New Hope Methodist Church. Durwood and Nathalie built a close, strong and bonded family celebrating holidays and birthdays together. She made her delicious traditional birthday strawberry angel food cake for each of the birthdays. She was lovingly called "Grandma Noni" by her grandchildren. Grandma Noni relished quality time with her grandchildren teaching them to play games and doing arts and crafts, and was always available to splash around in the pool.
She is survived by the following family members:
Children: James (Jim) Durwood Pate, Jr. and his wife, Martha and Catherine Ann LaCava and her husband, Mike;
Grandchildren from Jim: Jennifer Lynn Pope and her husband, Chris; Dr. James Brett Pate and his wife, Celia and Lance Cameron Pate;
