Obituary

Nola Nell Van Dyke went home to the Lord peacefully on Friday, September 23rd at the age of 91. Nola was born on August 14th, 1931 in Marshall, IL to Archie & Nora Davidson. She was the youngest of five children with two brothers and two sisters.

She graduated from Marshall High School in 1949. She went to work as a switchboard operator for AT&T's Indiana Bell telephone in Clinton, IN and then in Indianapolis, IN.

In 1952, she married Ken Van Dyke, then moved to Oklahoma City where she went to work at AT&T Western Electric on the production line, then later to switchboard again. She was later promoted to the Benefit organization as a Professional Administrative Candidate (PAC). She retired in 1987 with 30-plus years of service.

After her retirement from AT&T, Nola continued working at Helen Enox fabric stores.

Nola loved sewing. She was an excellent seamstress, making many of her own clothes and her children's. She especially enjoyed making quilts—likely numbering into the hundreds, and won many awards for her creations. She served her church, St. James Episcopal, by preparing the altar and making garments & sashes for the priest.

Ken & Nola were married for 70 years. Their favorite travel destinations together were Indiana and Florida to visit brothers & sisters, but especially Hawaii to get away.

Nola was preceded in death by her parents, Archie & Nora Davidson; her brothers, Don Davidson and Fred Davidson; and sisters Mary Jane Donnelly and Ada Lucas.

Nola is survived by her husband, Ken Van Dyke, 96; her daughter, Sandy & husband, Ralph Foste; son, Greg & wife, Brenda Van Dyke; grandchildren, Wes Kennedy, Zach Van Dyke, Matt Foste, Megan Beene and Bridget Monholland; as well as four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 1st at 10:00 AM at Vondel Smith South Lakes, 4000 SW 119th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73173.
