Obituary

Nolen Blackburn went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday August 28, 2025.

On January 18, 1940, Nolen Arthur Blackburn was born to Nolen Israel Blackburn and Helen Pauline Blackburn (Moore) in Stratford, Oklahoma. Nolen grew up in the area of Seminole, Oklahoma. In school, Nolen enjoyed Wood Shop; he constructed a bed, dresser and an end table as well as many other useful items. Nolen graduated from Seminole High School in 1957. After high school, Nolen attended Okmulgee Technical Institute. He later opened his own TV Repair shop in Seminole which he operated for many years. In 1964 Nolen made career change and went to work for Tinker AFB. He became an aircraft mechanic and specialized in B-52's. Nolen retired from Tinker in 1993.

Nolen married the love of his life, Redonda Turner, on May 26, 1967 at Capitol Hill Church of God in Oklahoma City. They were blessed with three children, Sonya, David and Duane. Nolen was a devoted husband and loving father. He was a great daddy to his children and the best husband. He loved his family and children and they loved him back. Whether it was Ball games, Boy Scouts, Band Concerts, etc, it was time well spent with Redonda and the kids. Nolen was a man of God and often read his bible and shared his faith with his children. Most mornings, Nolen could be found sitting alone in the dining room reading his bible and praying. His children often saw him there in the morning and that example had a positive effect on their faith.

When he wasn't working as a Civilian Fuel Tank Mechanic at Tinker AFB, his time was spent on the Board of Capitol Hill Church of God, where he also sang Bass in the Choir. He later became a Custodian at the church. Nolen was a wonderful backyard Mechanic, good with Lawn Care, Carpentry, Painting, and etc. Nolen played guitar and harmonica, and Redonda played Piano. They had a family quartet and each sang along with the children, when time provided. Nolen didn't miss much; when he did, his family was sure to fill him in. Since 2018, Nolen and his wife have been active members at Shartel Church of God, but Nolen's health the last few years kept him from attending. Parkinson's and Cancer may have taken his body; yet, his family always near and dear to his heart.

Nolen will be deeply missed by so many, but he will not be forgotten. Nolen touched many lives during his time on this earth, and his memory will live on through his family and friends.
