Obituary

Norma Ervene Evans, 87, joined her Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 8, 2025. We are thankful that she was surrounded by most of her family for several days right before her passing with sweet memories made. The last few years of life were a mental and physical struggle, but her spirit was a testimony to God's sustaining grace. "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:26

Norma was born in Atoka, Oklahoma on August 26, 1937, to Ervin and Beulah (Darst) Marlow.

Norma and her parents moved to California where she attended grade school until 1948.

Although she was raised in a Christian home, she struggled with the assurance of salvation well into her adult years. She eventually came to understand that salvation was not something to be earned, but it was a gift of grace, accepted through faith in Christ alone. She gave her life to Jesus and was baptized. From that point, she continued to love and serve the Lord with all her heart until the day she died.

She attended John Marshall High School where she met the love of her life, Howard Evans. They both graduated in 1955. She then attended Hills Business College taking a secretarial course.

Norma and Howard married June 26, 1957, at University Heights Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. They began their family early and continued to attend UHBC. In 1963 they began attending Putnam City Baptist Church where they raised their three sons, Mike, Mitch, and Jim. In 1986 they moved to Claremore and made their church home First Baptist Church until 2021.

From 1960-1992 Norma worked in many areas of business as a secretary, receptionist, Dictaphone typist, word processor and other general duties. She was very diligent, trustworthy, and highly respected.

Norma loved singing in her church choir, the Singing Church Women and The Kerr McGee Choraliers. God blessed her with a beautiful, soprano voice and she began using it to sing praises to Him while blessing so many. She enjoyed serving in the youth group and teaching girls Sunday School classes. She enjoyed making crafts at the PCBC Craft Cottage, thrift store shopping at GW(Goodwill), and attending water classes. She and Howard enjoyed vacations with their sons and traveling with friends. They also enjoyed having themed cooked meals with friends. Norma and Howard loved spending time in Atoka attending annual family gatherings on Decoration Day in May, family reunions and fishing at the family farm. Her favorite times were spending time with her family and making her specialty meals, chicken kiev or biscuits and gravy.

Norma will be remembered for her love for Jesus, contagious laugh, beautiful smile, caring and loving heart and the prayers she had for her loved ones. She loved others well and wanted everyone to know Jesus as their Savior. Her life as a wife, mother, friend, mother-in-law, and Nana will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Written in Norma's Bible is an encouragement to us all.

"God made me, Christ saved me and that makes me a person of great worth."

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Beulah Marlow and
