Norma Jean Ownbey Smith was born February 23, 1926 in Cleveland, Oklahoma the daughter of Joseph Harold and Versa Loweda (Allen) Smith. She completed this life on Monday, May 17, 2021 in Oklahoma City at the age of 95.
Norma was raised in Cleveland where she graduated from high school. She married M. K. Ownbey, Jr. on March 31, 1945. They made their home in Oklahoma City where they raised their three sons. She worked for many years as counselor's secretary at Northwest Classen High School. She later worked and retired from Putnam City West High School where she was the principal's secretary. They were members of Lakeside United Methodist Church and later became charter members of Our Lord's Community Church. M. K. preceded her in death on September 8, 1987.
After M. K.'s death, Norma married her childhood friend, Wilford Lee Smith. She and Bill lived for a number of years at The Coves on Grand Lake. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2010.
Norma is survived by her sons, Her sons, Joseph N. Ownbey and his wife Gayla, Fletcher Ownbey and his wife Jama and Pat Ownbey and his wife Kathy; her grandchildren, Scott Ownbey and his wife Megan, Dyan Rodriguez and her husband Juan, Susan Perkins and her husband Will, Mylla Wickwire and her husband Ryan, Micah Ownbey and his wife Andrea and Mitchell Ownbey and his wife Randi; Her great grandchildren, Anna Kate Ownbey, Bennett Wickwire, Parker Wickwire, Emerson Wickwire, Maddox Perkins, Liam Perkins, Brynlee Rodriguez and Logan Rodriguez.
Norma will be remembered as a devoted wife, mom, grandmother and friend.
A private family graveside service will be held Sunday at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
