Orvel Lee Houlette, 85, walked through the gates of Heaven on Oct. 10, 2015. He was born on Aug 31, 1930 to Robert and Mary Houlette in Seminole, OK. At an early age, Orvel enlisted in the Air Force and in 1948, married Betty Jean Pool. After working for the City of OKC for 44 years, Orvel retired in 1993 as the Chief Surveyor of Oklahoma City. He served as a Deacon at the Kentucky Avenue Baptist Church and Southern Hills Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Betty Jean Houlette; his parents; his brothers, Walter and Melvin Houlette and one sister, Mary Margaret "Toots" Young. Orvel is survived by his loving wife, Helen Hicks Houlette, who cared for him and fought for him throughout his Alzheimer's journey. He is also survived by his daughters, Teresa J. Lewis of Oklahoma City; Dianna Gunter and husband Jim of Woodstock, GA; and son, Gary Houlette and wife Debbie of Wanette, OK. He is also survived by sister-in-law Jeanette Sparks and husband Kenneth Sparks, 1 step-daughter, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Sooner Hospice, Autumn Leaves Memory Care staff and Pam Chadwell, PAC for their loving and continuous care of Orvel.
