She loved life. She lived life. She shared life. She cherished family. Friends. Music. Proud to be a teacher. Proud to be a Christian. Blessed with many talents – and a blessing to her many students.
Pamela Sue Raetz was born to Raymond Stanley "Buddy" Raetz and Martha Jean (Biggs) Raetz Cantrell in Weatherford, Oklahoma on January 23rd, 1964 and she was united with God's Heavenly Choir on Friday, April 24th, 2015 after a sudden illness.
Pam is survived by husband Steve of Oklahoma City, son Logan of Stillwater, OK, mother Jean and step-father Jerry Cantrell of Lawton, OK, brothers Stan Raetz and wife Mary of Hydro OK, and David Cantrell and wife Julie of Lawton, OK. She leaves behind several aunts and uncles and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and both paternal and maternal grandparents.
After graduating from high school in Hydro, Oklahoma in 1982, Pam went on to receive an undergraduate and master's degree in opera voice performance from Oklahoma City University. After teaching voice as an adjunct professor at OCU for nearly a decade, Mrs. Sullivan taught voice from her private studio at home for nearly ten years while being a dedicated mom to son Logan. For the next three years she served as middle and upper school vocal music director for Crossings Christian School, where she fostered lifetime relationships with faculty, staff, parents, and students. Her "kids" were her passion, her pride and joy. After her time at Crossings, Mrs. Sullivan resumed her private practice for the remainder of her time on this earth. She was an encourager, a mentor, a friend.
Mrs. Sullivan's love for music went well beyond her vocation – it was her lifelong passion. She was a member of Crossings Community Church congregation choir and chapel choir. She was also a devoted alto of the Canterbury Choral Society. She not only served as a vocal coach to many successful Miss Oklahoma pageant students, but was also a registered judge with the pageant system for over twenty years.
Introduced by mutual friends in 1987, Pam met Steve Sullivan on a blind date, married him in 1989, and celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary in 2014 by returning to their beautiful honeymoon destination in Banff and Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada.
Her true happiness in life revolved around her family. She was the centerpiece. The glue. The organizer. An amazing wife and mother. It brought her great joy to watch her baby boy blossom into a sensitive, intelligent, and independent young man. Her husband was her soulmate. Her best friend. And her biggest fan. Precious memories are a true gift from God. Our lives were forever changed by having had the privilege of being a part of her life here on this earth.
The family wishes to thank the incredible kindness of church, friends, family, neighbors, and former students during this tragic time. Your phone calls, food, cards, and kind gestures have helped us through these difficult days.
Memorial contributions in honor of Pam Sullivan can be made to Crossings Community Church or Canterbury Choral Society.
