Rev. Jim White, 86, went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2023. Jim was born in a farmhouse outside of Crescent, OK. His parents were sharecroppers. His family moved into the city of Crescent after a tragedy took his father and oldest sister in July of 1942. Two weeks before his death his father was led to the Lord by a rural route postman at the end of his driveway.

After this tragedy, Jim's mother moved her family to south Oklahoma City where she worked at Douglas Aircraft as a riveter to support her four children as a single mother. They joined Walker Avenue Baptist Church, and this had a great impact on their lives. It was there where Jim received Christ as his Savior. His mother's daily prayer was, "Lord, don't let the devil get my children"

He was a proud Capitol Hill High School Redskin. His senior year, he went out for track. He was a state champion and was offered an athletic scholarship to Oklahoma Baptist University where he was a four-year Letterman. In 2013, he was inducted into Capitol Hill High School Athletic and Activities Hall of Fame. While he was at OBU he met a brunette named Willa June Mason who was elected Harvest Queen. Jim was so enamored with Willa that he sold his bicycle he had used for paper routes so he could afford to take her on a date. They fell in love and remained sweethearts for 63 years of marriage.

Jim also surrendered to preach the gospel while at OBU and attended Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth where he received his Master of Divinity. He was a minister for 64 years. He spent his life preaching God's word and telling others about God's love. He was always concerned that others would know Jesus as their Savior. He treated all people with respect, whether rich or poor, whether of high or lowly position.

He served at many churches in OK, before he was called to Capitol Hill Baptist Church in 1973. He served as their pastor for 31 years before he retired in 2005. During his retirement he served at 9 different churches as the interim pastor until they were ready to call their permanent one.

He attended a men's prayer group on Tuesday morning for many years and often enjoyed breakfast at Grill on the Hill afterwards. He also served in a prison ministry for several years, telling them of God's love. He was also active in his community. He served 17 years on the Oklahoma City Community College Board of Trustees. He was a member of Capitol Hill Lions Club for 49 years. He also served on the Capitol Hill Main Street Committee and a mayor's committee that was precursor to Maps

He was a faithful husband, devoted father, enthusiastic grandfather and loving great grandfather. During his years of ministry, he impacted many lives and families. Most of them, he affectionately referred to as "His Children". He was faithful to his calling and to his Lord until the end. He lived right and he died right. He was a true hero of the faith.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents James Franklin & Nellie Verona (Moffitt) White; his 13-year-old sister Mildred White; his infant son James Franklin White, II; brother Gerald White & brother-in-law John Joles.
