In lieu of flowers please make memorial to St. Luke's United Methodist Church www.stlukesokc.org/give or Upward Transitions www.upwardtransitions.org.

Tommie went to be with her Heavenly Father on the evening of May 22, 2021. Tommie was born August 2, 1941 in Newark, New Jersey, to George and Helen Manahan. She lived in many places in her youth and finally the family moved to Highland Park, Illinois where she spent her teenage years. In 1959 Tommie graduated from Highland Park High School and then went on to attend college at Western State in Illinois.

In 1970 Tommie met the love of her life, Gary Rankin, and they were married on March 12, 1971 in Libertyville, Illinois. The two were blessed with a son, Scott. She was a wonderful wife and fabulous mother. She loved to cook and her family has fond memories of delicious meals and great family gatherings. Her Nana, Leola Steckman, was special to Tommie and they spent time together whenever possible. She loved her family dearly.

In 1976, Tommie and Gary relocated to Oklahoma City and made Oklahoma their permanent home. Tommie attended South OKC Junior College and took some classes to pursue a career in graphic arts and start her own type-setting business, Contemporary Type Faces in the early 80s. She operated the company for over 20 years.

Tommie was very involved with her church, St. Luke United Methodist, for many years. She was active in the Meals on Wheels program at the church where she and Gary cooked and prepared meals together for the outreach ministry. She and Gary also made donuts at the church for Sunday morning Life Lite services for a number of years. Tommie also loved to volunteer at the Civic Center and the Airport. She was a great people person. Tommie and Gary most recently were assisting with Provide-A-Ride before her health began to decline.

In addition to her church involvement, Tommie loved her hobbies. She enjoyed quilting and tole-painting. In the past she had been very active in Tennis and Golf with her friends at Willow Creek Country club. Above all, Tommie's favorite hobby had to be traveling with her family. She enjoyed several trips with her son Scott to Disney World and recently to China. She and her husband travelled the globe. They visited London, Italy, Ireland and France, to name a few, with their good friends, Frank and Marian Friedhoff. Other trips included Alaska, the Caribbean, & the Galapagos Islands with Gary and her sister, Linda. They went on a number of cruises together as a couple with family and friends as well as many memorable trips to the lake with Gary's brother Phil and his wife Sharon.

Tommie will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and caring of others and of course her love of Alpacas.
