Obituary

Patti Joan Hughes, 86, longtime resident of Oklahoma City, OK, was promoted to her eternal reward Tuesday, December 14, 2021. Patti was born July 28, 1935, in Stroud, OK to Grand Lewis "Slats" and Ima L. (Taylor) Deaton. Her early childhood and education took place in Okfuskee County and then in Oklahoma City, with Patti graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1954. On August 21, 1959, Patti married Richard L. Hughes in Sapulpa, OK. Patti was a business professional in the medical insurance field for 42 years, serving as a medical insurance supervisor for many years and retiring from American Fidelity Assurance in 2005. She took great pride in her work and was the model of efficiency. Patti loved to read and collect redbirds, quilts, dishes, and china as well as Precious Moments figurines. She was well-known for her potato salad, deviled eggs, as well as her delicious cakes and cookies. In Patti's own words, her interests were family and church. They were what mattered most in the world to her. She was a longtime member of Southern Oaks United Pentecostal Church, Oklahoma City for 54 years. She was a spiritual lady who loved God, the Bible and her church family. She took copious notes during sermons and lessons. She was the picture of faithfulness to her church and to her God. Patti was always quick to share that her greatest joys were her two sons Rick and Randall, and her three awesome grandsons Blake, Layton, and Lincoln. She was fiercely loyal and protective of her family and friends. Patti was an extremely caring individual, and her life mission was her concern for other people's welfare. As a result, Patti was generous to a fault, and was a channel through which God used to bless many people. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Richard L. Hughes, of the home; sons Rev. Rick Hughes and wife Valeria of Henryetta, OK; and Rev. Randall Hughes and wife Janet of Yukon, OK; grandsons Blake Hughes of Edmond, OK, Layton and Lincoln Hughes of Yukon, OK; three sisters Glenda Yount of Oklahoma City, OK; Betty and Doc Yancy of Blanchard, OK; Judy and Bill Watkins of Oklahoma City, OK; and one brother Dr. Allen B. and Jean Deaton of Whitefish Bay, WI, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grand Lewis Deaton, and Ima Deaton, and two brothers Mitchell Deaton and G.L. Deaton. Memorial contributions may be made in Patti's name to Southern Oaks United Pentecostal Church, 6501 S. Walker Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73139, Attn: Global Missions.
