In God's perfect timing, the Heavenly Choir gained another Alto on Saturday, August 17th, 2024. Pearl (Cheney) Kirkham passed away peacefully after her two year battle with Alzheimer's. Pearl was born in Hays, Kansas on July 12, 1935. She was the third daughter of Harold and Juanita (Erhart) Cheney. Pearl started school in McPherson, Kansas, where her family lived when her father was deployed to Europe in WWII. The family moved to Oklahoma City where she and her sisters graduated from Northeast High School.
Pearl worked as a secretary at the University of Oklahoma Medical School, where she met her future husband, William Kirkham. They were married for nearly 25 years, until his death in 1984. Following his internship and residency, she and Bill returned to Oklahoma City to be near family. As a member of the SVSC, she and Bill raised their three young children among "The Group", several neighborhood families who frequented the Lake Thunderbird together, put meals together, and cared for each other like family. Pearl put all her energy into raising her family and building a loving home, and was always involved in the PTA at her children's schools. She and Bill were active members of Hillcrest United Methodist Church, where they both had leadership roles and found lifelong friends. Pearl not only sang in the choir each week, she loved performing special music and scheming to come up with fun songs and skits for the many choir programs. She and her best friend and choir director, Ruth Archer, were an inseparable duo and truly a force to be reckoned with. Pearl was widowed in 1984 at the age of 49, when Bill passed away from colon cancer. Her friends and family never failed to love and support her as she continued to raise her daughters to adulthood. She was an active member of Southern Hills United Methodist Church where she again sang in the choir, worked mobile meals, and found many places to share her servant's heart.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William R. Kirkham, her father, Harold D. Cheney, her mother Juanita E. Cheney, and sisters Shirley Beesley and Patricia Reynolds. Her surviving family members include Mark D. Kirkham of Phoenix, Janet Kaye Kirkham Harris and husband Arthur of Kensington, Maryland, Don C. Kirkham and wife Sheila of Albuquerque, Patti J. (Kirkham) Goodman and husband Greg, and Sharon (Kirkham) Hahn and husband Michael, all of Oklahoma City. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, William C. Kirkham, James R. Kirkham, Elen Oneal Miller and husband Ezra, Isaac Kirkham Oneal, Anna Oneal, Caleb Little and wife Celeste, Jillian (Goodman) Ramick and husband Clayton, Chandler Goodman, Shelby Little, and Connor Little, as well as three great-grandchildren, Eilish Miller, Seamus Miller, and Fitzgerald William Ramick. Her namesake and fourth great-granchild, Eloise Pearl Ramick, is expected in October.
