Peggy Sue Winters passed from this world to her heavenly home on May 23, 2021. Peggy was
born in Guymon, Oklahoma on December 3, 1948 and was the third daughter to Guy Wayne
Papay and Evelyn Louise Nester Papay. Peggy was raised in a small-town Optima, Oklahoma
and finished her high school years in Guymon. While in high school Peggy participated in
cheerleading, ran track, and lettered in basketball. For many years Peggy was the only one to
make both Junior and Senior High School Queen. After High School, Peggy attended Panhandle
State University, achieving several honors, and was chosen Collegiate Coed of the year. While
attending college, Peggy was in many beauty pageants, winning first runner up in the Miss
Guymon pageant and third runner up to Miss Plainman pageant. Peggy continued being a
cheerleader while in college and loved gymnastics. Peggy made many friends.
Peggy relocated to Texas where she got into the nursing program at Northwest Texas graduating
as an R.N. fulfilling her dreams of becoming a nurse. Peggy started her nursing career by
accepting a job at Integris Baptist Medical Center (IBMC) in Oklahoma City. Peggy had a long
and successful career at IBMC retiring after 37 years where she worked her way up to
Administrative Supervisor for IBMC. She made wonderful friendships with so many people
while at IBMC.
While pursuing her career at IBMC in Oklahoma City, Peggy met the love of her life, Lynn
Winters, and they were married on June 2, 1981. Unfortunately, Peggy was not able to have
children of her own but with her marriage to Lynn Winters came a son (Stepson) Brandon
Winters. Not only did she have a stepson, but she also had the close relationship of her nieces
and nephews who were like her own children to her. Lynn and Peggy lived in Edmond,
Oklahoma where they had built their primary home together. They were also fortunate to have a
lake house where they enjoyed time together, as well as, with friends and family once they
retired.
Peggy loved animals, loved arts and crafts, shopping with her two sisters and nieces, attending
the Affair of the Heart most every year. Peggy, also loved traveling, gardening, and cooking.
Peggy loved Christmas and Fourth of July where she would decorate her house and lake house
every year. Her husband often teased her about the neighbors thinking they would be like the
Griswalds because of the elaborate decorations and lights.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband of nearly 40 years, Lynn Winters; step-son Brandon and
wife Linda Winters; grandson Trenton Winters; two sisters, Dianne and husband Jim Lee; Kathy
and husband Ronny White; nieces, Catherine and husband Mike Martin; Karissa and husband
Josh Freeman; nephews, Brent White; Mike and wife Amber Lee; along with numerous extended
