Obituary

Dr. Ravi Kumar Malpani was born December 20, 1947, in Dalmianagar, India, one of

seven children of Radhelal and Satyawati Malpani.

He was raised in Hyderabad, India where he graduated from Osmania Medical College

in 1973 and after completing his internship, he came to the United States in 1974

where he did his Residency in Internal Medicine at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield,

NJ and his fellowship in Pulmonology at the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.

Ravi married his college sweetheart, Vijaya Lakshmi, a pediatrician in 1974. Their

wedding was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1980

where they practiced medicine, have been involved in the community, and raised their

two children Vikram and Veena.

Dr. Malpani practiced at Integris Southwest Medical Center for 37 years where he

served at various times as the Chief of Medicine and Chief of the Pulmonary

Department. He was a diligent physician, one who was supremely devoted to his

patients and practice. When he came to Southwest Medical Center, he was the only

pulmonologist on staff for years and he worked without taking a day off. He was also a

member of the Rotary Club of South Oklahoma City and an active member of the

American Association of Physicians from India (AAPI) where he was instrumental in

supporting younger physicians in Oklahoma City. Ravi and his family are active

members of the Hindu Temple of Oklahoma City where he served on the board for

many years.

His friends will remember his generosity, strength of character and sense of humor. His

eyes always sparkled, and his grin was the widest when he had the opportunity to tell a

joke or a funny story.

His family will remember that he was always there for there for them – whether it was

opening his home as they immigrated to America, guiding them through their health

issues or encouraging them as charted their own course in this new land.

His children will remember his undying support, his love of movies and ice cream and

his greatest joy - his grandchildren. For him there was no greater happiness than

taking his 3 grandchildren to Braum's for a treat and watching them as they devoured

ice cream.

Ravi is survived by his loving family, his wife, Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi Malpani; his son,

Vikram Malpani (wife, Nidhi); his daughter, Veena Malpani; his grandchildren, Jatin

Malpani, Jahnvi Malpani, and Jyoti Malpani; and his sisters, Madhu Nawal and Sudha

Mundra both of India and a large extended family throughout the US and India.
