Rebecca Alice Hunter, age 83, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma died in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2015. Born August 12, 1932 in Oklahoma City to Edith and Judge Nutt, she was the third child of four children, having three brothers. Rebecca was born at home on S.W. 29th Street and has lived her entire life in south Oklahoma City, except for short periods of time spent in California when her husband was serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1950, she married Robert E. Hunter. They had three sons: Robert Jr. ("Bobby"), Jerry, and Jim. They lost their first child, Bobby, when he was only two years old. Her working years were spent performing secretarial work while her husband was in the service, attended college, and completed medical school. Twenty years of her career were spent as an executive secretary for Cities Service Gas Company. After leaving Cities Service, she continued to do much of her husband's office work from their home until his death in 1998. In 1980, Rebecca and her husband organized the first ever Capitol Hill High School Class of 1950 Reunion, 30 years after graduation! Her greatest loves in life were her family and home. She loved many forms of art, painted, and did a number of pieces of outstanding needle work. She and her husband built a small Victorian house in their backyard and restored two houses. She created photo albums for her children and grandchildren pertaining to each of their lives, put together a cookbook of family and friends' recipes with pictures throughout, did furniture restoration, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles (she worked 84 so far this year, all at least 1,000 pieces!), and loved working in the yard. She is survived by two sons and their wives - Jerry and Trina Hunter, and Jim and Teri Hunter of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren - Jennifer Pettit and her husband Steven, Craig Hunter, and Kaitlyn Hunter of Oklahoma City; Jamie Rom and her husband John of Castle Rock, CO; and Julie Britton and her husband Derek of Arlington, VA; four great grandchildren - Chloe and Brooklyn Rom, and Evan and Reilyn Britton; a brother, DeWayne Nutt and his wife Marie of Carney, OK; sister-in-law, Patsy Nutt of Oklahoma City; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert E. Hunter, M.D.; one son, Bobby; and two brothers, Jerry and John Nutt. Our Mom was known by several names: Rebecca, Becky, Aunt Becky, Grandma, Grandmommy, and, most recently, "GG." But most importantly, she was known by her extraordinary capacity for love, faith, gratitude, selflessness, friendship, loyalty and support – not to mention her unparalleled talent for creating lasting memories for those whom she loved, and who loved her. A small sampling of those memories, in addition to those already mentioned, include unforgettable holiday celebrations and the love of all things Christmas that she has passed on to each generation (which include more beautiful ornaments, both antique and otherwise, than you could possibly imagine). Mom would say that we, her family, were the rock from which she drew her remarkable strength and courage, especially as she fought this final battle with such grace and dignity. However, we would disagree. It was Mom who gave all of us the strength to go through this with her – accepting both God's will and her choices. The Family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Integris Hospice and Debra Branch for the superb care and support rendered during this difficult time. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
