He held an Associate's Degree in Police Science from Oklahoma State University; a Bachelor's of Science from Oklahoma City University; a Master's of Arts in Teaching, and a Master of Criminal Justice Administration from Oklahoma City University. He also received the Honors Scholars Awards from both universities.
He married the love of his life Maxine Branch on June 26, 1954. They were together for the next 69 ½ years.
Rex worked at Boeing in Wichita, KS, for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and retired as a Lieutenant from the Oklahoma City Police Department after 34 years of service, and 20 years as Head of Security at McBride Bone and Joint Hospital. During his time with the OCPD, Rex received numerous awards and commendations, including the Law Enforcement Purple Heart.
Rex loved God, his family, his state, and his country with all devotion. He also loved his favorite sports teams; the St. Louis Cardinals, the OKC Thunder, and Oklahoma University, with unflinching support (except when they were behind in scoring). He attended World Series games in 1968, 1982, 1985, 1987, 2004, 2006, 2011, and 2013 to watch the St. Louis Cardinals. He was honored to be a Deacon at Brookwood Baptist Church. He was also fiercely proud of his service as an Oklahoma City Police Officer. Rex wanted people to remember him as a Christian, devoted husband to Maxine, a devoted father to Sheila and Bill, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, a patriot, and a Cardinals fan. His memory will live forever in the hearts and lives of those he touched.
