In Loving Memory of Richard Lee Bacon, Jr.

We bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Richard Lee "Rick" Bacon, Jr., who passed away on November 18, 2023, doing what he loved, leaving behind a legacy of courage, laughter, and boundless love.

Born in Killeen, TX, on May 10, 1962, to Richard Lee Bacon, Sr. and Doris Maxine Welch, Rick's zest for life was evident from the very start. His formative years at Norman High School were filled with sports, friendships, and the kind of stories that turn into local legend.

Rick's professional journey began with the Norman Fire Department on January 1, 1984. He dedicated 26 years to service, ascending from firefighter to Training Chief, a testament to his leadership and commitment.

Beyond his career, Rick's true passion was cycling. He was a fixture on 100-mile rides, sharing the road and stories with fellow enthusiasts. His resilience shone brightly after a near-fatal accident in 2009. His recovery and return to cycling were nothing short of miraculous, a beacon of determination for all who knew him.

Rick's personal life was anchored by love. He and his wife Cheryl, married on a leap year day in 1996, shared a love that spanned the decades, filled with travel and adventure. His infectious laugh and grand heart made him a friend to all, never meeting a stranger.

Above all, Rick was a family man. His daughters and grandchildren were the jewels of his life, each moment with them treasured and celebrated. His pride in his family's accomplishments and joys was unwavering.

Rick's departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit, laughter, and the echo of his bike's wheels against the pavement will forever be with us. As we say goodbye, we also say thank you—for the love, the memories, and the indomitable spirit that was Richard Lee Bacon, Jr.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Cheryl; his daughters, Meleia (Steven), Whitney, and Kendra (Ryan); his brothers, Ronnie (Jennifer) and Randy (Evelyn); his sister, Michelle (Kent Pence); and his cherished grandchildren, Brandon, Blaine, Aeden, Britton, Gracelyn, Brecken, Kase, Zoey, and Felix.

The family requests donations to be made to cycling charities that promote safety and recovery for injured cyclists, continuing Rick's legacy of passion and perseverance.

A celebration of Rick's life will be held at Southern Hills Baptist Church, on Friday, November 24th, 2023 at 10:00 am. All who have been touched by his warmth are welcome to join in honoring his memory.
