IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Michael
Bassett
March 11, 1958 – December 17, 2023
Robert "Mike" Bassett, 65, of Tuttle passed away Sunday, December 17th, 2023 in Oklahoma City. Despite battling complications from diabetes, Mike's journey was filled with joy.
Mike was born March 11, 1958 in Oklahoma City to Robert and Betty Bassett. He was raised in OKC and Mustang along with his brother, Butch and sister, Linda. Mike and his family attended South Lee Methodist Church for many years. Mike was involved in wrestling and football, where he excelled in both sports. As a young man, Mike helped out at his father's plumbing shop, Basset Mechanical Contractors. Mike graduated from Mustang High School in 1977 and later went on to attend OSU.
Mike always had a love for cars and tinkering with them. He decided to become an auto mechanic, which became his lifelong career. He could work on, adjust, or fix just about anything that was sent his way. Mike worked for many years at Mustang Alignment and made countless customers happy during his time there. He met a lot of friends through his work and made some life long lasting relationships at the shop.
Mike was a fan of good food, racing, and movies. Mike loved to go out to eat with his family and friends at his two favorite spots, Golden Corral or San Marcos. It was a great opportunity to connect and make memories. As far as cars go, Mike built his own modified drag car, "Spartacus", out of a 1948 Fiat Topolino 500, which he raced as often as he could. He was in the process of building another car, but his health declined before he could complete it. Some of Mike's buddies are going to finish it in his honor and that's what he would have wanted.
Although Mike is no longer here with us, he will always be remembered for his kind heart, willingness to help others, and love for his family.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Betty Bassett and his brother Earl, "Butch" Bassett.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Cornelius and her husband Derel Cornelius, sister in law Debi Bassett, and numerous nieces and nephews: Robert Cornelius, Ryan Cornelius, Scott Cornelius, Tiffany Aduddell, Lacy Boyd, Breanna Bassett, Chalyn Bassett, and Chanda Grubbs. As well as a host of extended loving family and friends.
