A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Wednesday, February 28 at 2:00 PM at Southern Oaks Free Will Baptist Church (7201 S. Santa Fe Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73139).
Viewing will be at Vondel Smith South Lakes (4000 SW 119th St), on Monday and Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM, with family greeting friends on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.
Robert "Bob" Leon Bishop, 85, of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born on April 10, 1938, in Oklahoma City to William Warner Bishop and Wilma Mae (Southard) Bishop. He grew up in Oklahoma City, and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1958, where he was skilled in woodworking class, and pen and ink artwork.
Professionally, Bob enjoyed a successful career at the Oklahoma City Water Department where he retired from the water filtration plant, after 42 years of service. He was highly respected by his colleagues for his dedication, integrity, and unwavering work ethic.
In his free time, Bob could often be found eating at Sherri's Diner, drinking coffee with his friends, roller skating (in his younger years), or riding his motorcycle. He greatly appreciated his church family at Southern Oaks Free Will Baptist Church, where he attended for over 40 years.
Throughout his life, Bob was known for his easy-going, kind-hearted, and fun-loving spirit. He had a remarkable ability to connect with youngsters, bringing joy and laughter wherever he went. His playful spirit and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on those he encountered.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jo Anne Trotter Bishop, and his daughter, Sally Ann Bishop. He was also preceded in death by his parents, William Warner Bishop, and Wilma Mae (Southard) Bishop, his brothers William "Billy" Earnest Bishop, Aaron LeRoy Bishop, and Ralph Eugene Bishop, as well as two sisters Donivee Bishop and Patricia Ann Bishop Beard.
He is survived by his daughter Trisha Brooke Bishop, brother Jackie Dwayne Bishop and wife Kathleen Bishop, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews whom he enjoyed spending time with.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Benny Gallegos, Karl & Barbara Gray, Pastor Paul Collins & his family, as well as Mike Grimes & his family for their unwavering friendship and support to Bob throughout his life.
Bob touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
