Obituary

A Wake service will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 5th in the Vondel Smith Mortuary South Colonial Chapel, 6934 S. Western. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00, Thursday, February 6th in the St. James Catholic Church, 4201 S. McKinley Ave. A memorial service will be held later in St. Paul, MN.

Robert Douglas Lowe, Sr. was born May 8, 1934 in St. Paul, Minnesota the son of Margaret and Marvin Lowe. He left us to join our Heavenly Father on Monday, February 3rd, 2014 at the age of 79. After graduating from Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul, Bob served in the U.S. Army from September 28, 1954 to April 4, 1956. He is a St. Paul native who started his career as a union pipefitter in 1957 and eventually served as Business Manager of Local Union 455, then served as an International Representative for the United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters. He brought many years experience to the board in the areas of labor relations, affirmative action, plant and distribution systems, construction and maintenance. Bob was a founding member of the Developing Committee that established District Energy St. Paul in 1978. He served on the District Energy Board for 19 years before being elected Chair of the Ever-Green Energy Board in 1998, a position he held until 2006. He currently was serving as Chair of the Personnel & Compensation Committee. Over the years Bob served on numerous civic and state committees and boards, which included, the Saint Paul Parks and Building Capitol Improvement Committee (1974-1983), Downtown St Paul YMCA Board (1975-1981), St Paul Chapter of Big Brothers Board (1975-1981), Metropolitan Vocational Education Consortium (1976-1982), Governor's Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship Training (1976-1984), St. Paul Board of Education from (1971-1983) of which he served as chair 1980-1983. Bob served on the Ever-Green Energy board because of his interest in energy, the environment and the prosperity of the City of St. Paul. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Marvin Lowe; mother-in-law, Margaret Rader; sister, Barbara Zacharias; brother, Jim Lowe and granddaughter, Grace Lowe. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Nancy Ann Lowe; brother, Jerry Lowe (Bette) of Inver Grove Hts, MN; sister-in-law, Sandy Lowe of Littleton, CO; brother-in-law, Charles Zacharias of Stacy, MN; daughter, Vickie Schauer (Bernie) children, B.J., Bobby, Brian, Billy and Ben Schauer, White Bear Lake, MN; son, Rob Lowe, Jr. (Josie), children Andrew and Samuel Lowe, Coon Rapids, MN; daughter, Barbara McNabb (Mike), children, Delaney Higgins and Tierney McNabb of Burnsville, MN; son, Tony Arango (Mistie), children, Chase and Cruz Arango, Edmond, OK; daughter, Nicole deFreese (Mark), children, Turner, Harper and Elle deFreese, Edmond, OK; great grandchildren, Josie and Gavin Schauer; good friend, Bill Malhem; as well as many nephews and nieces.
