Robert "Bob" Henry Turner was born April 21, 1930 in Oklahoma City the son of Clayton Bryan and Lela (Nichols) Turner. He completed this life on October 9, 2024 at the age of 94.
Bob was raised in Oklahoma City where he attended public schools including Putnam Heights Elementary, Webster Junior High and Central High School. His family moved to a small farm in Northeastern Arkansas where they lived for two years. Bob graduated in a class of 12 from high school in Desha, AR. While in high school, Bob wrote many poems, some of which were published in various poetry magazines. The family returned to Oklahoma City where Bob attended Oklahoma City University. He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Oklahoma City. In 1950 and 1951 Bob was a member of the Alliance church board. It was in that church that he met Vertice Kinser. After they had dated for about a year they married. Bob wrote a book about their life together titled, "Memories of Vertice – a Love Story".
In 1951 Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving until his discharge in 1955. While in the Air Force he was a helicopter mechanic. Bob had always been interest in airplanes, and he began taking flying lessons when he was 18 years old. While he was in the Air Force as a mechanic he continued taking civilian flying lessons, and he obtained his private pilot's license in 1953. He and Vertice flew small planes in the Texas area at that time.
Bob's and Vertice's first child, Debbie, was born at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Texas in 1952. Bob remained in the Air Force until 1955 when he and Vertice returned to Oklahoma City.
In 1960, Bob graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in mechanical engineering where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. After graduation, he began his professional career with Western Electric, a subsidiary of AT&T.
Bob's and Vertice's second child, Robert Lyndon, was born in Oklahoma City in 1962. Bob was active in his children's schools, and was president of the PTA in 1966 and 1967.
In 1985 Bob retired as Director of Engineering for AT&T in Denver returning with Vertice to Oklahoma City.
Bob and Vertice began attending Church of the Servant in 1988 joining the church in 1995.
Bob helped with the team that mailed the Church of the servant newsletter. In 1994, Bob was part of a team that went to Nicaragua to build a small medical clinic in a rural area there.
Bob liked classical music and enjoyed attending orchestra and ballet concerts. He also worked with oil painting, and some of his paintings are in the family home.
Bob married Vertice Kinser on September 11, 1949. They were married for 66 years when she passed away on December 21, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clayton B. Turner, Jr. and his son-in-law, John Sheaffer.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Debbie Sheaffer; his son, Robert Turner and his wife, Mariela; and his grandchildren, Stephen and Mark Sheaffer, Aliza and Jarod Turner.
Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, Oct 21st, at Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
