Obituary

Robert "Bob" Woods was born to Elzie and Vickie (Kusek) Woods on April 20, 1944 in Oklahoma City. A lifelong resident of Oklahoma City, Dad ended his ten-year fight with Parkinson's Disease on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the age of 79.

Bob was a proud three-sport letterman and 1962 graduate of Mount Saint Mary's High School, where he developed the wry sense of humor that he displayed to the end. Following the example of his Uncle George and Uncle Andy's heroic World War II service, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps that summer and profoundly changed the course of his life.

After training at Camp Pendleton, CA, he embarked in USS PRINCETON (LPH-5), forward-deployed from Long Beach, CA to Subic Bay, Philippines. Later assigned to the 3rd Marine Division on Okinawa, he deployed to Vietnam in the summer of 1965, serving as a field radio operator supporting the first U.S. combat operations against the Viet Cong. He was honorably discharged at Camp Lejeune, NC, in May 1966, three days before his promotion to Sergeant.

After minoring in walk-on football at East Central State in Ada, Bob married Linda Ruth Story on August 11, 1967. They made Oklahoma City their home, and he translated his Marine experience into a 36-year telecommunications career with AT&T, Lucent, and Hertz, becoming known as a respected baseball coach, staunch Putnam City North Panther booster dad, die-hard Sooner football fan … and, most importantly, the beloved Pahoo to eight grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Bob is survived by Linda, his wife of 56 years; his son, LCDR Rob Woods and his wife Lisa of Lithia, FL; his daughter, Amy Richards and her husband Jeff of Muncie, IN; his sister, Carolyn Woods of Oklahoma City; his brother, George Woods and his wife Jane of Oklahoma City; and his grandchildren, Gabe and Noelle Woods and George Ethan, Andrew, Allison, Adam, Nate, and Aaron Richards.

Funeral services are Tuesday, April 2 at at Vondel Smith Mortuary North, 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd. Interment with military honors will follow at Yukon Cemetery, with reception afterward.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Parkinson's Alliance or veterans' charity of choice.
