IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ron J
Kirby
November 19, 1944 – September 19, 2023
Ron J. Kirby ("Ronnie" to his Mom) was born November 19, 1944, in Colony, Oklahoma, the son of J.C. and Lorene (Pulis) Kirby. He joined his parents and his younger sister Delores Kaye Kirby in heaven on September 19, 2023, in Oklahoma City at the age of 78. Ron's love for his children as well as his friends and other family members was the fire that fueled in existence every day.
Ron spent his childhood in Weatherford Oklahoma where his father was an automobile mechanic. He graduated from Weatherford High School in 1963 with his first wife Marseda Ione Kappel on his arm. Ron and Marseda eventually had 3 children, Richard, J and Michelle. This family began in Weatherford, where Ron was the star linebacker for the Weatherford Eagles and later the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs and received a bachelor's degree in education, with plans to be a teacher. Then the "oilfield" called.
Ron moved his wife Marseda and young son Richard to the frozen fields of Alaska, where Ron began a career as what was known as a "Mud Engineer" for Dresser Industries and worked in the extreme conditions of the North Slope at the virtual "top of the world". While in Alaska, Ron's two "eskimo kids", J. Michael and Michelle were born to a family that loved life and adventure which included regular camping trips in the "Alaska fields". Ron later moved his family to Laurel, Mississippi and then Elk City, Oklahoma where he continued his oilfield career with such companies as AnSon and then later Haliburton, and a short career as the owner of a "Farm and Garden Center".
Ron and Marseda divorced in the early 80's and Ron moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma where he married his second wife, Shirley, and became a new father to David and Kristen and later the 4th of his children, young Stephanie. This family lived in Ardmore, Oklahoma and then Las Vegas, Nevada where Ron worked for Weyerhaeuser Industries as a quality control expert for the booming home construction business.
Sadly, Ron and Shirley divorced, and Ron moved to Mount Home, Arkansas and then later to Chickasha, Oklahoma where he made many new friends with what was called the "Cowboy Church" and then later as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Ron eventually moved to Heritage Assisted Living Facility in Yukon in 2016 where he became the "Entertainment Director", often hosting movie nights for the residents.
Ron is survived by his children: his son retired Oklahoma County Judge Richard Kirby and his wife Jane of OKC, his son J. Kirby of Elk City and the Honorable Michelle Kirby Roper and her husband Chad Roper of Elk City; David Louthan and his wife Jessica of Clinton, Oklahoma, Kristen Scott and her husband Michael and Stephanie Kirby of Tiverton, Rhode Island and his grandchildren Christopher, Courtney, Katie, Piper, Dakota , Kayson, Christian, Hayden, Deacon and and a great-grandchild Ivy Jae, as well as his brother Willie Kirby and wife Donna of Mustang, Oklahoma and his brother Tony Kirby and his wife Karen of Florida, as well as his niece and nephew Tami and Mac as well as many other grand nieces and nephews and his many friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 22nd at 6:30 PM the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 12020 N. Mustang Road in Yukon, Oklahoma.
