IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth Faye
Sanders
October 21, 1935 – September 17, 2022
Ruth Faye Sanders ("Faye"), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 17, 2022, at the age of 86. She was born October 21, 1935, to Franklin and Minnie (Copeland) Gathright of Antioch, Arkansas. She grew up with four brothers, who lovingly called her "Sally" from a young age. The family moved to Idabel, Oklahoma, in 1935 where they operated a family mattress factory and farm. Faye graduated from Idabel High School in 1953.
Faye met Jodie Sanders during her high school years, and they were married on August 31, 1954, in Idabel, Oklahoma. They recently celebrated 68 years of marriage. The couple moved to Oklahoma City, OK in 1954.
Five children were born to Jodie & Faye: Diana, Michael, Jeff, Gary and Nathan. Faye was a stay-at-home mom and was involved in school and church activities for many years as the children grew. She then started working part time in the cafeteria at Jefferson Heights Baptist Academy, followed by a full-time job at a doctor's office for a short time, and finally working for about twenty-five years at Gettys Chiropractic Clinic as a Chiropractic Assistant. Music was a central part of her life from an early age, as she loved to sing and play the piano and organ. She served as church organist for 46 years. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years, participated in WMA, and even the church bowling league. She and Jodie were active with the Sonlighters, Choir, and various other activities over the years. There were also many family vacations, celebrations, and a lot of fun. Jodie and Faye were active members of Central Avenue Baptist Church, Jefferson Heights Baptist Church, and New Heights Baptist Church, where they served in various capacities until their health precluded them from attending.
Faye is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Jodie Sanders and their children Diana Nick of Oklahoma City, Michael Sanders and wife Annette of Vacaville, CA, Jeff Sanders of Shelbyville, TN, Gary Sanders and his wife Terry of Oklahoma City and Nathan Sanders of Oklahoma City. She is grandma to eight grandchildren: Donna Dreuth and husband John, Donald Stephens Jr and wife Tiffany, Jeffrey Sanders and wife Cassie, Michael Sanders and wife Danielle, Randy Sanders and wife Heather, Terry Sanders and wife Hayley, Shelby Sanders, and Austin Sanders; and twelve great-grandchildren; she is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, daughter-in-law Melissa Sanders and son-in-law Andrew Nick.
The family would like to thank Good Shepherd Hospice for their outstanding and personal care, and a big thank you to Amy Gamble, as well, for the daily care she gave Faye, whom she lovingly called "Mom".
We love you Momma! See you later.
