Obituary

Samuel David Davis Pettigrew February 20, 1955 - February 24, 2021 Samuel David Davis Pettigrew passed into heaven at 11:58 PM on 02/24/2021. Both of his loving children Samuel David II and Paige Ann were at his side. He was a wonderful father, brother and friend to everyone who knew him. His smile was infectious, and you could not miss his sparkling blue eyes. Sam accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of his life in 1974 while serving in the US Marines in Santa Ana, CA. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Sam was an amazing athlete in his youth and could wheelie a motorcycle for an entire mile and keep going until the road ran out. He was also a natural mechanic. He could take an engine apart and put it back together without looking at a manual in a matter of minutes. He was an avid hunter and had the most keen eagle vision that was so uncanny that friends and family wondered at times if he was part wolf. He could see a deer's tail flicker in the woods from a hundred yards away while in dense brush. Sam had a deep love of nature and could tame his pet deer and other animals just by his love for them. Sam graduated from McAlester High School in 1973 and joined the US Marines soon after. In 1976, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Bryan, and they had two wonderful children, Samuel David II and Paige Ann. He served his country as a member of the US Marine Corps for over six years attaining the rank of Sergeant. He also worked at Tinker AFB for over 30 years as a mechanic on the B52 and B1 bombers which were and are among the most complicated aircraft to serve and service in the US Air Force. > Sam leaves behind two children, his son Samuel David Pettigrew II and his wife Maricel and his daughter Paige Ann Nguyen and her husband Anthony, and six granddaughters who were the light of his life. He is survived by his brothers Wayne Pettigrew, Billy Pettigrew and Jimmy Pettigrew. He also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mothers, Opal and Pearl Pettigrew and his father Willie Pettigrew. Services will be Monday, March 1st, 2021 at 1:00pm at Ludlow Cemetery located in Honobia, Oklahoma. Vondel L. Smith & Sons in Oklahoma City are handling funeral services. >
