Sarah Ruth Saunders of Haynesville, LA, died in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 93 on June 9, 2026

She was born in Haynesville on November 15, 1932, to Robert and Jacinta Whisenhunt. Sarah attended Haynesville High School before attending Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, TN.

While attending college, she met Ross Thomas Saunders, who was majoring in religious studies. Upon their graduation, Ross and Sarah were married. Ross took a preaching position while Sarah was employed at a sowing factory where she was promoted to line supervisor. Throughout his preaching career, Ross took on other business endeavors in which Sarah lovingly assisted him.

Ross and Sarah had four children. Given in their birth order they are Steven Saunders, Jacinta (Cindy) Shepard, Sherri Finley, and Sonya Cochran.

There are seven grandchildren: Sarah Finley, Ethan Finley, Trey Cochran, Hannah (Finley) Cowley, Nathan Shepard, Tamerah (Cochran) Rainwater, and Kaylan (Shepard) Reeves.

The great grandchildren are Archie Finley, Avonlea Finley, and Landon Cowley.

Sarah is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sarah was a long-time and faithful member of the Lord’s church and last attended the Tri-City church of Christ in Newcastle, OK.

She was preceded in death by Ross Saunders her husband and Andrew Whisenhunt her brother.
