Sherry (McAllister ) Lewelling, 71, of Guthrie, passed away with family by her side Sunday, April 23rd, 2023 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Sherry was the daughter of Vernon McAllister and Bernetta "Tootsie" Pool . Sherry was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma on September 27, 1951. In school she excelled in drama, choir competitions, cheerleading, and student council. One of her favorite pastimes as a young girl was cutting her baby dolls hair. Sherry graduated from Fletcher high School in 1969.
Sherry was blessed with two sons, Tommy and Bobby. She was a wonderful mother and loved her children dearly. She worked hard to make sure they always had everything they needed. Some of her favorite things to do with the boys were cooking for them and all of their friends, especially her fried chicken, going to their many sporting events, and attending family gatherings.
Sherry began working in cosmetology after she graduated from high school. She started cosmetology school in Chickasha while living with her Nanny Keathley. She worked in numerous salons over the years all over Oklahoma. After getting out from behind the chair she became a master instructor teaching cosmetology at Aladdin Beauty College. In the late 1990's she went to work for the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology as an inspector. Eventually becoming the Executive Director of the State Board of Cosmetology. During her time as an inspector and executive director she touched many lives, too many to count. She loved her coworkers and employees, considered many of them close friends. She was well known and loved by countless cosmetologists, barbers, and massage practitioners across the state and is considered THE PILLAR for her industry not only in the state of Oklahoma but in the country. It was during her role as executive director that she was introduced to the idea of the R.I.S.E. Program by Christie Luther and that spark ignited into an inferno of love and passion for that program. Sherry has served those in her industry like no other.
When Sherry wasn't working she enjoyed time with those closest to her. She was a founding member of the FuFu Girls (a tight knit group of close family and friends). She served as a board member for R.I.S.E., which is a not for profit organization that teaches incarcerated women the vocation of Cosmetology free of charge. She was very passionate about the program and loved giving back by sharing her skills and knowledge.
Sherry will always be remembered for her faith in God, her fierce love for family & friends, her beautiful heart, her red lipstick, and her high heel shoes. Sherry will be missed but never forgotten.
