Obituary

Sherwood "Woody" Clark was born in Oklahoma City on April 11, 1945 to Ora Lea Clark. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1963 where he played tuba in the band and orchestra. After high school he worked while attending Oklahoma State University in Stillwater for a couple of semesters before enlisting in the United States Airforce on June 13, 1966. Basic training was at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. A few station changes and 2 years later brought him back to Texas when he was assigned to the 683rd AWC radar squadron at Sweetwater Air Force Station. A blind date with Mary Logan would lead to 53 years of marriage 6 months later on September 14, 1968. After returning from Vietnam in 1971 he and the family moved to Florida, Minnesota and Texas. In 1977 he was transferred to Tinker Air Force Base where he was on the ground floor of a new type of radar. The Airborne Warning & Control System (AWACS) was ground breaking new technology in radar with the E-3 Sentry Plane at the center. The first of its kind mobile, long range radar surveillance and control center for air defense. He flew many missions first in America then internationally as part of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). This would be how he served his country as NCOIC (Non-commission officer in charge) for the remaining 14 years of a 25 year Air Force career in radar. He traveled all over the world with the 963rd, 964th and 552nd Air Tactical Command but his family was where his heart stayed. Although he was away from home frequently and for long periods sometimes when he came home he was always HOME and involved in family life. He retired from his military service on June 30, 1991. After retiring "for real" he and Mary spent lots of time together working in the flower beds and traveling, mostly to see the grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary and his mother Ora Lea Clark. He is survived by his son Steven Clark and his wife Deborah, grandchildren Cameron Clark and Patricia Clark, and daughter Lisa Clark.
