Obituary

Vondel Smith Mortuary North (13125 N. MacArthur Blvd)

OKLAHOMA CITY Shirley Jane Chisman Platt, faithful servant of the Lord and her fellow man, peacefully departed this life on March 31, 2022, surrounded by loving family and friends. Shirley grew up in Colorado Springs, CO, the fourth of five children born to Harold and Izetta Belle Chisman. After attending Pasadena Junior College in California, Shirley returned to Colorado to work in her family's business. It was there that she met John Platt, a soldier stationed at Fort

Carson, CO. The young couple soon married and moved to Oklahoma City, where John began a long and successful career as director of Northwest Classen High School's award-winning Cry-Slurs choral ensemble.

Over the years that followed, Shirley devoted a great deal of herself supporting her husband and his choir students. For most of her married life, Shirley had her own career too, serving in numerous meaningful capacities at Baptist Hospital, Integris Health, Integris Hospital and Integris Health Foundation. Over her 41-year career, she: served as an administrative assistant in executive offices; directed in-house and local school volunteer programs; managed quiet areas

for patient families; and spear-headed several Integris-based community projects. Shirley's innate kindness, deeply held faith, unconditional love, servant's heart, wisdom, and strength of character led her to feed the hungry, visit the sick, and help the helpless in general. Shortly before her passing, Shirley retired and was honored with Integris' Heritage Award, recognizing her as (among other things) an inspiration and icon. Shirley was a loving and devoted parent, grandparent, and great grandparent. Her happiest times were when family of all ages were gathered at her home. Along with her husband, Shirley relished every opportunity to volunteer with her grandchildren's school musical and dramatic endeavors. In recognition that their tireless efforts made Putnam City West High School programs stronger, they received Golden Apple Awards, the school district's highest honor, given annually to those who have demonstrated dedication to excellence in education.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Sr., her brother George Chisman; and her sister Dorothy Hollandsworth.

She is survived by her son, John Jr., and his wife, Ricki Sonders Platt; granddaughter, Ashley Thomas, and her husband, John; grandson, Kyle Platt, and his wife Heather; great-grandsons, Quentin, Lakota and Orin; siblings Keith Chisman and Roberta Morphis; and many nieces, nephews and friends all very dear to her heart.

A memorial service will be held 3:00pm Monday, May 23rd, 2022 at the Auditorium - Integris Baptist Medical Center (3300 NW Expressway, OKC 73112)
