Obituary

Sonja Sue Starkey was born December 10, 1940, in Bristow, Oklahoma, to O.D. and Oneyta Thorpe. She went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Sonja attended Bristow Public Schools, graduating in 1958, and went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma in 1962, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. While at OU, Sonja was active in the Tri-Delta Sorority. She met the love of her life, Marvin, her Sophomore year at OU, and they were married on August 25, 1962. They shared almost 59 years together as husband and wife and best friends.

Sonja was a faithful follower of Christ, and prayer warrior. The most important thing in her life was her faith in Jesus Christ. She was an active member of First Southern Baptist Church in Del City, OK, and then Heritage Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, OK. Sonja served the Lord as a college Sunday School teacher for many years, where she poured into the lives of young women. She was a homemaker, and she had the gift of encouragement, writing notes or making visits, always investing in the lives of others. Apart from her relationship with Christ, family was the most important thing in Sonja's life.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, Marvin;

Two children: Daughter and Son-in-law, Susan and Mike Toone of Edmond, OK,

Son and Daughter-in-law, Brad and Michele Starkey of Tulsa;

Five grandchildren and their spouses: Bradley Toone and wife Beth of Maumelle, AR,

Brittany Bone and husband Dylan of Edmond, OK,

Maddison Chappell and husband Jacob of Guthrie, OK,

Annalee Starkey, and Garrett Starkey of Tulsa, OK;

and two great-grandsons; Noble Jacob Bone, and Grayson Marvin Toone.

Sonja was preceded in death by her parents: O.D. and Oneyta Thorpe, and her sister Lynda Smith.

These last four months she was cared for lovingly by Steve, Christian, Lilly, and Hospice nurses Gayla and Tessa. They ministered not only to Sonja, but to our whole family as well. We could not be more grateful.
