Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Steed Walker Tyler at the age of 30. Born on December 28, 1993, in Oklahoma City, Steed left this world on September 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, integrity, and hard work.

From a young age, Steed showed the qualities that would define him throughout his life. He was the kind of boy who always carried pennies in his pocket to leave a tip at restaurants, and his love for Frito-Lay bean dip earned him the affectionate nickname, "the bean dip king." Steed's sense of honor was recognized early on when he won the Integrity Award in the fifth grade, and it continued to grow with him into adulthood. His friends, sometimes wild country boys, always knew they could count on him, and Steed never let them down. His loyalty and support extended to his family, particularly to his sister Maddie, whom he cheered for at every band competition, always the first to tell her she did a great job, his support of her and her family continued to adulthood.

A graduate of Newcastle High School, class of 2012, Steed carved his own path in life. Despite pressure from counselors to attend college, Steed knew early on where his future lay. He was a hardworking man, having learned the value of labor as a boy working alongside his grandfather on the farm. Later, Steed began mastering the HVAC sheet metal trade at the family business, where his dedication and skills earned him the title of the youngest HVAC journeyman in Oklahoma. His professionalism quickly gained the trust of his colleagues, and he excelled at every challenge, earning praise from project managers who, after seeing his expertise, would specifically request him for future jobs.

In 2022, Steed and his wife Katie took a bold step in founding Walker HVAC, a thriving business that reflected his commitment to excellence. Steed's recent acquisition of his contractor's license, an accomplishment that requires not only extensive experience but also mastery of complex theoretical and regulatory knowledge, was a testament to his talents and perseverance.

Steed's passion for the outdoors was equally remarkable. Whether he was hunting, fishing, or fly fishing, nature was where he felt most at peace. Fly fishing, in particular, became a favorite activity for him and Katie, who fondly remembers their first guided tour in Crested Butte, Colorado, where Steed made sure she was decked out, with all her fishing gear, trimmed in his favorite color of turquoise. One of his greatest joys was teaching his son, Hollis, to fish for the first time this past summer. Together, they made memories catching even the smallest bass, but their shared excitement was priceless.

Steed had a knack for finding treasures at auctions, from guns to jewelry. He enjoyed the art of bartering and researching his purchases, often to the amusement of Katie, who would tease him for missing out on deals by researching too long. His most recent win was a ruby and diamond cluster ring, with plans to turn it into earrings for his beloved "sissy," his daughter Dawsyn.

Above all, Steed's love for his family was unmatched, marrying his childhood sweetheart, Katie Riojas, in 2018, and their two beautiful children, Hollis (soon to be four) and Dawsyn (one). They were the center of his universe. His devotion to them was unwavering, and his pride in them was boundless.

Steed is survived by his loving wife Katie, their children Hollis and Dawsyn, his parents, Justin and Kerri Tyler of Oklahoma City; his sister, Madison Stephenson, and her husband Connor of Blanchard, OK; his mother and father-in-law, David and Shari Ardies of Newcastle, OK; his brothers-in-law, Grayson (Kelsey) Ardies of Yukon, Blake (Madison) Riojas of OKC; his sister-in-law, Bailey Ardies of Los Angeles; his great-grandmother Mary Louise Tyler, grandparents, Joe and Kathie Tyler and Jim and Paula Fox of Oklahoma City, Bob and Theresa Humphries of Newcastle; his aunts and uncles, Shane (Gina) Tyler, Crystal (Steve) Caruthers, JP (Mindy) Fox, Mindi (Troy) McNair, Melisa (Jesse) Ott and Diane (Larry) Bruch; and his four nieces and nephews, McCoy (3), Nick (2), Eleanor (1), and Monroe (1) as well as numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Paul Tyler, James and Mary Ward, Dick and Naomi Jones and Don and Melba Fox.

Steed leaves behind an unfillable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy is one of love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to those he cared about. Despite battling cancer over the past two years, Steed continued to balance his professional and personal life with grace and resilience, always planning the next adventure for his family. The world has lost an extraordinary man whose heart touched everyone he met.
