Steve Bounds was born in Poplar Bluff, MO on September 8, 1952, to Bobby O. and Betty J. Bounds. He departed this world on September 26, 2024, surrounded by his wife and love of his life, Susan, and his two children, Kelly and Cody. Steve was a dedicated husband and father whose love and devotion for his family were unmatched.
Just before starting the 7th grade, Steve moved to Harrah, OK, the town which became his home, with his parents, sister Nicki, and cousin Dewayne. It was then that Steve first met Susan, but it would still be a few years before they began their lifelong love for one another.
Steve was very active and popular throughout high school. A successful athlete, he played football, earning All Conference honors, and wrestled, placing 3rd in the State Tournament. His teammates elected him as captain for both the football and wrestling teams. He raised livestock and served as president of FFA. He was active in student government and was elected president of his Senior class. Steve graduated from Harrah High School in 1970 and attended Oklahoma State University to study Animal Science. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science from OSU in 1974.
Following college, Steve began his thirty-plus year career as a civil servant with the U.S. Government. He first worked for the Farmers Home Administration, then as a civilian DOD employee at Tinker Air Force Base, before moving over to the Federal Aviation Administration, where he retired in 2007.
After dating their Senior year of high school and throughout college, Steve and Susan married on June 20, 1975. During the early years of their marriage, Steve and Susan bought their first home in Midwest City, OK, and met their neighbors and lifelong best friends, Jim and Mary Piotrowicz. A few years after that, daughter Kelly was born followed less than two years later by son Cody.
Steve moved his family back to Harrah, OK. He acted as the general contractor for the house he and Susan built in Harrah. Steve and Susan wanted their children to grow up and go to school in Harrah, and they moved just in time for the kids to start school.
Upon his retirement in 2007, Steve and Susan found their dream home, a historic craftsman house in the Linwood Place neighborhood of Oklahoma City, OK. Always eager to give of his time and experience, Steve soon joined the Linwood Place neighborhood association, serving as neighborhood watch captain and later as treasurer for a number of years.
Not long after moving to Oklahoma City, Steve welcomed Jenn, his daughter-in-law, to the family. Shortly after this, his grandson, Micah, and granddaughter, Eden, were born. The grandkids dubbed him "Pops", and they brought unrivaled joy to his life. He delighted in seeing them grow and in watching them excel in their endeavors.
Along with spending time with his family and friends, Steve enjoyed golf, travel with Susan, home improvement projects, and SCUBA diving.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Bob Bounds, father-in-law, John Bealmer, and mother-in-law, Nadine Bealmer.
Steve is survived by his wife of over 49 years, Susan Bounds; daughter, Kelly Bounds; son and daughter-in-law, Cody and Jenn Bounds; grandchildren, Micah and Eden Bounds; mother, Betty Bounds; sister, Nicki Bounds; cousin and wife, Dewayne and Linda Dabney; brother-in-law, Glenn Bealmer; sister-in-law and husband, Donna and Dan Quinn; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends.
