Terry Noland Church, a beloved father, grandfather, and esteemed member of his community, was called to his eternal rest on July 29, 2024, at the age of 85. Born alongside his twin brother on November 17, 1938, in Abilene, Texas, to Henry Gant and Jewell Marie Church, Terry lived a life marked by dedication, creativity, and boundless energy.
After graduating from Lubbock High School in 1957, Terry embarked on a remarkable journey as a rockabilly entertainer. With his guitar in hand, he traveled across the country, sharing the stage with notable musicians of the era and leaving an indelible mark on the music scene.
Terry Noland was a rockabilly musician known for his contributions to the early days of rock and roll in the 1950s. He was part of the early rockabilly scene and is remembered for his distinctive style and influential recordings. In 1957 he was recording at Norman Petty's studio alongside his schoolmate Buddy Holly and continued his musical career Performing in "Alan Freed's Holiday of Stars"at the New York City Paramount Theater.
Noland's music is characterized by its upbeat rhythms, catchy melodies, and a blend of rock 'n' roll and country influences. His work fits within the classic rockabilly tradition that includes artists and friends he played music with such as his schoolmate and friend Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, and Jerry Lee Lewis, and many more. One of his notable tracks is "Patty Baby" and "Sugar Drop" which showcases his rockabilly style. His work continues to be appreciated by fans of the genre and collectors of vintage rockabilly music.
His passion for music and performance was a defining feature of his early years, but his entrepreneurial spirit soon led him in a new direction.
Terry's career in real estate development began in the early 1970s, and he quickly distinguished himself as a visionary in the field. Driven by a love for designing and building, he taught himself drafting and architectural engineering, skills that served him well throughout his career. Terry meticulously drew his own blueprints, managed his own contractors, and developed a diverse portfolio across central Oklahoma. His innovative approach and unrelenting work ethic led to the creation of numerous successful ventures, reflecting his commitment to excellence and growth.
A true embodiment of his generation's values, Terry was known for his hardworking nature, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to his family. He never truly retired; his passion for building and learning continued to fuel his endeavors well into his later years. But his entire life, his greatest passion was singing, everyday he had a song in his heart. Terry found joy in the simple pleasures of life and the company of his friends and loved ones.
Terry's career was highlighted by his involvement with various companies and his receipt of several accolades for his contributions to real estate development. He remained active, pursuing interests such as singing, storytelling, and working on land development projects.
Terry was a devoted father, grandfather, and a faithful servant to the Lord. His legacy of hard work, love for family, and passion for life will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he has been welcomed into eternal glory.
Terry is survived by his Sons: Tim Reed, Dane Church, Trever Nolan Church, & Noel Byron Church. His Grandchildren: Michael, Brittan, Scotland, London, Ryan, Richard, Ashley, Connor, Preston, Emma, & Evan Church, his Great-Grandchildren: Charlotte, Beau, & River.
Many nieces, nephews & many other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents; Henry Gant Church & Jewell Marie (Deatherage) Church His Sister, Katherine Sirpless; Brother; Bobby Gene Church, & and his twin Brother, Dr. Jerry Roland (J.R.) Church.
