Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Orville Bone, 93, went home to be with his Savior on December 8, 2024 at 9:13 am. He was born in Konawa, Oklahoma on September 19, 1931to William Thomas and Chester Viola (Phillips) Bone. He was laid to rest on Friday, December 13, 2024. Tom married on November 1, 1952 the love of his life, Margie Earline Armstrong and together they shared 67 years of marriage. After graduating from Lawton High School he went on and enlisted in the US Navy. Serving for over 20 years he retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Tom served during Korea and Vietnam. He enlisted on May 26, 1949 in Oklahoma City and his discharge was in San Diego on October 3, 1969. During his career he was stationed in Cuba and Guam, Marianas Islands. He was a pitcher on the Navy Softball Team. Tom and his wife were in a Bowling league with other enlisted couples. Tom was the leading storekeeper and senior enlisted man in the supply department. His evaluation marks on his reports read that he was intelligent, reliable and earned exceptional trust far above that normally given to a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Tom spent many hours re-evaluating job requirements. He had outstanding organizational ability which enabled the Stores Division to obtain and maintain an extremely high state of material readiness and service to the ship. He planned and monitored scheduling of Yard work which leads to higher grades in personnel and medical inspections. He gained much respect from the men on his ships through his own outstanding example of person appearance and conduct. He kept the ship stocked with supplies, even with limited funds and many requirements to fill, by pre-screening requisitioning and sending ahead to get as much material as possible within a given money constraint; one time out of 585 requisitions only 6 were not filled with stock for the ship. While on the Canberra ship during a course of supply overhaul Tom purified the ships excess of materials, turning back into the main Supply System a total of 1 million dollars resulting in his Commander receiving a large credit to work with supplies in the future, making his efforts one of the outstanding divisions on his ship.

After his retirement from the Navy he worked in the parts department at Lynn Hickey Dodge and other Dodge dealerships in Oklahoma City making Manager of Parts before retirement. During his time he had many regular customers that would ask for him specifically to get their supplies. Tom took accounting classes at South Oklahoma City Community College and earned his Insurance License. Tom's passion was traveling. He was able to see all of the US states except Alaska. Tom could be found Saturday's and Sunday's watching football and the other nights he enjoyed Hallmark movies. He is a long time member of Mustang Nazarene Church. Tom was faithful to God and prayed daily. He is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
